Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 14, 2010 10:51 am Hi all, My wife and I have recently purchased a piece of land in Adelaide's south western suburbs (Marion Council) and we have a couple of questions to throw out there regarding house design ideas. The land has a 10m frontage and 46m deep, We dont really want to go double story and we are not sure how long we will live there but it will be minimum 5 years. Obviously the house will be a villa type design. (Long and skinny) Some questions we need answered..... - Are alfresco areas worth it (resale) or is a well constructed gable pergola a better idea? - is a 4th bedroom/study or a seperate lounge more attractive when you do sell? - We have found a couple of designs with double garages (side by side)(S.C.C) or is a house with a through single garage into courtyard a better idea? Thanks for any response! I'm not in a position to comment on narrow blocks and smaller houses, cause have never built that style as have always had bigger lots. Re: First time building, advice needed!!! 3Mar 14, 2010 12:03 pm Hmm..I think that it will depend on personal preferences of your buyers.. I personally would value an under-roof alfresco, plenty of rooms as well as double garage (that will comfortably fit two cars and these cars should be a bit bigger than Smart)... ... built a Promenade with Clarendon. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25104 20-10-09 - excavation and piering completed ... 12-04-10 - Basins fixed. Re: First time building, advice needed!!! 4Mar 14, 2010 2:20 pm If you're going to live in the house for any length of time it is better to just build what you would like to live in (without doing something that is completely "out there"). But things like extra bedroom or more living area or whether to go alfresco are so personal that it will probably not make much difference in the marketability. Trying this building gig one more time. Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not?
