Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 14, 2010 9:26 am Our contract stated 9 months which I found very long. When we signed it we were told not too worry because they frequently finish earlier Now it looks as if they're going to even miss the 9 month end date by quite a lot. And no amount of complaining, arm waiving, escalation or talking to managers seem to help. Everyone over there just can't give a sh*t Sorry for ranting, just need to get if off my chest. Doesn't seem to bother them in the least Trying this building gig one more time. Re: Does Merticon regularly miss their contract end date? 4Mar 14, 2010 10:07 am At $250 per week there is an incentive to complete on time, even if it's a slight incentive. Some ion this forum have had much lower figures and these are no incentive at all. I think the builder would rather finish on time than 4 weeks late. $1000 is a fair chunk off the profit margin. A few streets away from us they finished a Nolan 41 within 8 months of building permit approval, but then again we've heard of other double storeys taking 14mths+! Quite a bit of variation in time to completion from the blogs and stories we've heard. We had site start Dec 22 '09 and have just completed frame stage on our Nolan, and certainly hoping to be in well before xmas this year (the "official" completion date is dec 30, 2010!) They said it is wasn't really relevant because they generally finish early anyway. I wish I hadn't fallen into that trap. Don't let them bully you into the same swindle they did me! Re: Does Merticon regularly miss their contract end date? 15Mar 14, 2010 7:34 pm I honeslty thing everyone is different and it doesnt matter which builder, every experience will be its own. We have had friends build with both Dennis and "M" and one had a brilliant experience with dennis while the other was a nightmare and the same with "M". We have had nothing but good experiences so far (but still havnt started building yet) with "M" . i think a lot has to do with the tradies who are on your job. Re: Does Merticon regularly miss their contract end date? 16Mar 14, 2010 7:41 pm Merticon started out really good. Service was fantastic until about frame stage and it all went down hill from there. I don't want to make you paranoid, but keep an eye on things. My issues aren't so much with tradies as with the Merticon people themselves. They are really careless and sloppy when it comes to scheduling the final part of the build. Trying this building gig one more time.
