Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 12, 2010 11:55 am I am not really happy with the position of our tap. The builders just finished putting what appears to be a vent in, and it's positioned right under our tap and channels up. My husband says to let it go, we have had so many hassles with our builder ... but does this contravene any building standards ... or am I being too picky? It just annoys me, doesn't look right at all. Haven't spoken to builder about it yet ... was only done last week. (EDIT: the brass fitting to the wall is wrong, should be the chrome as per the tap .. ) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Outside tap position: Would you be happy with this? 2Mar 12, 2010 12:03 pm Looks like you where supposed tohave a drain under the tap and they have placed a down pipe there. There is nothing wrong with the way its plumbed- as in the water is connected ok. Although i though notice that the pvc pipe is perhaps being used for a charged system, (for water tank). Now if the connection point was actually supposed to be a drain for the tap then the water wouldn't be going to the tank, insteads straight outside(storm water). Re: Outside tap position: Would you be happy with this? 3Mar 12, 2010 12:13 pm Thanks Borg for your reply. We don't have a water tank. We are on the canals and all stormwater is fed back in to the canals. I am not sure what the vent/ pvc pipe is actually for. Re: Outside tap position: Would you be happy with this? 4Mar 12, 2010 12:18 pm pvc down pipes are used were they need to hold water. Otherwise colorbond downppipe are used. If you are going to have concrete under the tap you may want to modify things so that you end up with a drain for the water to fall into. Re: Outside tap position: Would you be happy with this? 5Mar 12, 2010 12:29 pm Thanks again Borg, much appreciated. Do you think then I should be asking the builder why it isn't in colourbond? All our other down pipes are colourbond (we paid extra for this) I thought a drain or small soakwell at least should be under the tap. That is why I was surprised when i saw last week this ugly pvc pipework, it has a large diametre too, larger than our downpipes. It only goes up about 3/4 of the wall then has a vented cover on the top. We are getting a building inspector in before handover. We are expecting PCI very shortly, I think we will just raise this all then. I am not happy with it, and don't understand why it's done like this. Just wanted to pick the brains of the users on this forum to see if they thought I had a valid point... Cheers again Borg. Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
