Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2010 5:36 pm Howdy all I've been playing with drawings etc trying to figure out what we want in a house and came across someones plans on here that had the 4th bedroom seperate to the second and third labelled as a guest room. We know our house is going to be one story and we want 4 bedrooms. We intend on having 2 children so having 4 bed + guest seems a bit much and just wasted space. Am I better off having my 'childrens wing' with 3 bedrooms, play room + bathroom or do I make it 2 bed play room + bath and put the 3rd bedroom elsewhere in the house near the main bathroom and keep it seperate as a guest bed. Opinions please Re: What to do with 4th Bedroom 2Mar 09, 2010 6:53 pm Mrs P We intend on having 2 children Sorry..... so did we.... Clearly, we can't count, because we seem to have three. OK, let's be serious. I'd prefer to have guests away from my ferals and their loud music, constant bickering and disgusting, piggy habits. I'd also prefer to have a separate bathroom for guests that the kids are banned from EVER using. In my dreams.... Re: What to do with 4th Bedroom 3Mar 09, 2010 6:54 pm Depends whether you have visitors a lot?? I dont want guests. Ive had plenty of house sharing I personally would go with the kids playroom/rumpus near the bedrooms so that their toys etc are out of the way, and later on they can use that space for whatever they need - exercise equipment, their own computer, who knows. Re: What to do with 4th Bedroom 4Mar 09, 2010 6:56 pm Bam I dont want guests. Ive had plenty of house sharing Wonder if I could take that approach... my outlaws live in Canberra... it's a long trip just for a day visit Re: What to do with 4th Bedroom 5Mar 09, 2010 7:00 pm Personally I would have the extra room seperate to be used as a guest room or a home gym or a parents retreat etc. etc. Also depending age difference between the kids, a slightly larger room the oldest can move into later can provide a bit of sanity relief and seperate fighting siblings. However I am a single male (building 4x2) and as a kid the larger room for my brothers to get away from me was a large shed at the back (i'm 7yrs younger then the next one up)and i'm sure it kept my parents from going completely bonkers. So house planning for a family isn't something I've thought about. Its all about weighing future vs current need I suppose but I reckon the seperate room gives greater options going forward if you dont need the "kids wing" right now. Actually, we purpously built a four bedroom house, not five, knowing that all bedrooms would be occupied, so there'd be no room for regular family visits. My friends don't mind being put up on the sofa bed in the lounge, but it deters certain older relatives from coming. No names, no pack drill. Re: What to do with 4th Bedroom 9Mar 09, 2010 7:40 pm Thanks for the replies guys kek we will have a problem then, I have vowed to never have three so its two or four.. if its four we may have a problem with not enough rooms! haha I will get drawings done up of both variations and see how we go. We are building keeping in mind of kids until teenagers. Because we are on acreage we will eventually build a 'pool house' out the back so the kids can run off to their if need be. So many decisions it does my head in!
