Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2010 10:32 am I now know why all of you get so excited when you see the slab for the first time. This process started in August last year and there was a lot, I mean a lot of waiting. I am glad I can share this with you all. Our site supervisor has not contacted us for around 5 weeks. Do you think this is too long between phonecalls/emails? Yes...I will be contacting BGC tomorrow. Good customer service is so important to me...it can make it a good or bad building experience. KEYS ON 5/11 AT 1PM Re: Booque's Build 2010 8Mar 25, 2010 5:44 pm I think I've actually spoken to the site supervisor once, never met him (my dad has - he's the designated drive by during the day when I'm at work - gotta love retirees ) I go past regularly (almost every week night) if i spot a problem that i think need immediate attention I take a photo and email my administrator and she gets back to me - usually same day (next day when i email at 11pm - always give myself time to remove emotion when spot error before emailing - usually turns out to be very minor issue that I've blown into a major one) unless she not sure. Thankfully only minor things so far which have all been fixed quickly. Little or no contact has not affected my build thus far - but I havent pushed for that Im happy with the email updates (which are always behind the actual build progress) and speedy and adequate replies to queries...hopefully yours goes as quickly as mine has so far. I will be posting my colours soon. Need to get my hands on a scanner!! Hi Booque, everyone on here seems to take photos of anything and put them in photobucket and then post them throught that site if that helps, so you would not have to have a scanner If I finaly can work out how to do it then anyone can,.... hehehehe My building thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25279 NEARLY DONE. KEYS ON 5/11 AT 1PM Re: Booque's Build 2010 10Mar 28, 2010 6:29 pm Thank you. 244sfc , what errors have you come across? Today I saw about half a pallet of bricks missing along with a couple of bags of cement. (This is before they have been laid.) That annoys me because I would like to keep any spare bricks, pavers and tiles after completion. I only live 5 minutes away, but I don't want to go anymore than that, it might make me a bit stalker-like. Also, I don't want to annoy the tradies. KEYS ON 5/11 AT 1PM Re: Booque's Build 2010 13Mar 29, 2010 11:24 am Booque, only problems I have so far have been 1) No starter/support bar in alfresco pillar (not sure if standard but next door had one so I wanted one) - was placed before brickwork on pillar started. 2) Pipe in wrong spot and ended up under wall - Until electrician and plumber came in thought it was pig problem but it wasnt. it was ot by maybe 10cm max and what i thought was a plubing pipe was there so the electrical waires could be chased down the wall and appear where powerpoints were needed at the dishwasher recess 3) brickies left water running and hose not connected properly ie spraying water from the connection - was not happy emailed them and the next day water was off and hose had been disconnected 4) had to ask them to remind brickies to mix the bricks better - though knew this was the risk with the brick i chose. Theiving a-holes, I was lucky no bricks went missing but the brickies were wasteful had less than half a pallet left but was hoping for more as planning to do brick pillared fencing (Maybe full brick with rendered panels). Notify your contact so they know whats going on - may get the cement moved into the shed, minimising any delays due to lack of cement. Was annoyed at next doors roof framers aswell they used a pallet of my roof tiles as a bench and smashed about 40 rooftiles , there are only about 20 max spare and some of those will have to be used to repair tiles smashed by the hail last week, so not going to have too many of those left over either. So far only minor, easily fixed problems and hoping it stays that way Let them know about any issues and they will sort them out rwasonably quickly. Hopefully all goes well from here Building "DOMAYNE" through COMMODORE HOMES in Pearsall WA Slab down 15-01-2010 Handover 16-06-2010 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=29049 Re: Booque's Build 2010 14Mar 29, 2010 10:40 pm Thanks camyperth. Will do photobucket. Still a bit trial and error, but I will get the hang of it sooner or later. As to those errors 244sfc....wow, I would probably miss things like that, but I think I will keep a log a potential problems (Thanks H1!!!!!!!). I saw a locked box with some things in it, but I guess they can't fit everything in there. Stealing supplies already....other building companies or owner-builder....? Regardless, it is still annoying Building with Commodore Homes Revolution in Hocking Pre-start 17th December Slab down 5th March 2010 Bricks done 10th April Walls plastered 20th May 2010 Lock up 3rd June 2010 My building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=30812 Re: Booque's Build 2010 15Mar 29, 2010 11:24 pm I only like going once a day for same reason dont want to annoy the tradies but because of the brick I chose I had my dad call past there every second day or so because if not mixed properly you end of with a cream brick house with large blotches of red....rather than a nice mix throughout which I think adds a lot of character. If you go by daily you'll spot the differences fairly easy....have a look at neighbours builds and see if they have got something that you think yours should (thats how i picked up the starter bar - my next door neighbours slab had it but i didn't) Also the two essentials I always take to a site visit are my camera and a set of plans (photocopy of course) - went to officeworks and got the cheapest A3 display folder to put them in so they dont get to damaged/dirty on the floor of my car. They should start bricking soon (if they haven't already)...then the excitement really kicks in.. I found around two to three of these in each room. Does this compromise the structure in any way? The outside bricks look fine. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I saw how many good bricks they discarded so I am sure they could have used those. I suppose they will just fill in the gaps. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ In this one it just looks uneven, especially around the top in between the WIR and toilet. But other forum members assured me it doesn't matter because it all gets filled in with the render before the plaster goes on. Looking at other people pictures it seems quite common. It does look a bit wonky in between the doorways, if you are really concerned I would speak to your SS about it. I found our SS to be very approachable about any issues, hopefully yours is the same. At the beginning of our build we got emailed fortnightly updates, then we got a new CSO and they stopped . So after lock up I started requesting updates every week. Although it was a bit disapointing that I had to ask, they were very prompt and detailed with the replies which made up for it just a little. Hopefully you will still have plenty of bricks left over, although you might have to move quickly to claim them by the sounds of it! Is the bricking finished now? Re: Booque's Build 2010 Progress!!! 18Apr 26, 2010 9:46 pm Can't believe how quickly it is going at the moment (probably shouldn't speak too soon.) In a way, I am glad I don't do a drive-by everyday. The roof frame went up this week, along with the gutters and the downpipes. I really don't want to worry about everything, but on the other hand, I am spending a lot of money. I think we all deserve the high standards that we are paying for.
