Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 07, 2010 5:06 pm Hi all, I'm new to the forum and also to the building game. My P & I are building with Celebration Homes, SoR in the Perth Metro. We put the offer on the land mid-November, signed up with the builder end November, signed contract mid-December. Finance approved end December, titles issued early Feb and settlement occurred end-Feb. Had pre-start mid-Feb, building license already obtained, and now we're awaiting the final plans, which hopefully will be ready by Tuesday. Been a smooth trouble-free process so far. For those of you out looking for a mortgage broker, I gladly and wholeheartedly recommend our Mortgage Broker, Chris from the Mortgage Gallery in Morley. He's friendly and very professional - not pushy at all, and has 20+ years experience in lending. He did a fantastic job organising our finance through Keystart (despite what the builders may tell you, YES, Mortgage Gallery does have Fast-track), and our FHOG without any hitches. Looking forward to seeing pics of your progress!! Laney. Our Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=30685 Re: Building my first home... finally... 3Mar 07, 2010 9:40 pm Hi Rosemi, congrats on your building journey. It is a very exciting time & I look forward to seeing your plans. I am pleased for you that so far things have gone smoothly for you, big relief I am sure. We found the planning stage very long & frustrating. It took us approx 6 months to get through all that but we are on our way now. Our slab was poured on Wednesday last week & framework hopefully starting this Wednesday if the rain stays away Look forward to watching your home come together Re: Building my first home... finally... 4Mar 10, 2010 8:56 pm Thanks buiLdinGdReamS & jodie76. I know everyone on here likes to see pics, unfortunately, my P forbids me from posting any (yep - he's checking up on me too) Whats news? Well, I think I spoke too soon and jinxed the progress. I was hoping that we'd get the final plans by today so that we could sign 'em off and get 'em back to the builder before our cc goes on leave, alas, that hasn't happened... Soooo... it looks like we may have to wait 3 1/2 weeks before anything starts. Oh well, thinking positively, we have an additional 3 weeks to save money. They live in a world of their own just like banks! Yes, at least you will save money & you will need plenty of that! Why don't you go & buy yourself something for the new house! Keep you happy & motivated rather than dwelling on the setback! Re: Waiting for site start 6Mar 13, 2010 3:54 pm Thanks jodie76, that thought had crossed my mind, there are some external lights I like that are currently on sale... or maybe I'll just sit down and draw up a plan for our backyard landscaping instead. Go & treat yourself & buy them! We all things like that to keep us going Re: Building my first home... finally... 8Mar 14, 2010 8:49 pm Didn't quite make it to the lighting shop, but we do have a tap... and a new tree on the verge... When things stall go out and look at things for the house, even buy something for the house - it keeps you sane Re: Building my first home... finally... 10Mar 15, 2010 10:03 pm thanks gooyear, I can't complain too much, things have been going rather quickly all things considering. Having said that, we were supposed to have had our final plans today, but apparently they missed Friday's mail. Also got word today that our site costs will be $900 more than we'd allowed for, phew! Having said that, we were supposed to have had our final plans today, but apparently they missed Friday's mail. Also got word today that our site costs will be $900 more than we'd allowed for, phew! Don't talk to us about site costs! Ours were enormous but now we have seen the pre-slab works & slab we realise what we are paying for. Our house is not going anywhere! $900 is not to bad so you have to be happy with that. Any news about your plans yet??? Maybe Tuesday?? Re: Building my first home... finally... 12Mar 15, 2010 10:58 pm hi jodie76, your build is coming along nicely. I hope our place goes up as quickly as yours when it gets started. The person who's taking care of our file while our Constr. cons. is away told me today that our plans had been finished by drafting and that we should receive them tomorrow. Apparently, if we're happy and sign 'em off and return them asap, then we could be scheduled for site start this Friday. Fingers crossed we get 'em tomorrow Building SOR with Dreamstart Homes Customised Dream Dior/Summer Sensation https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83776 Re: Waiting for site start 14Mar 16, 2010 3:45 pm jodie76 rosemi Thanks jodie76, that thought had crossed my mind, there are some external lights I like that are currently on sale... or maybe I'll just sit down and draw up a plan for our backyard landscaping instead. Go & treat yourself & buy them! We all things like that to keep us going There are some free down loads available on the net for landscaping design stuff. Cant remember which one I got but I have used it several times playing with decking and moving water features and grass, plants and outdoor furnture around. Gotta do something to stay sane while waiting for builders to finish. I've also got a copy of the BH&G disc that came their latest mag, which I've decided I don't like either. oh well got plentyof time, so I'll keep trawling the web until I find something that I do like. Thanks goodyear! unfortunately, we have to wait another day... We had it too easy up to now, so I guess something had to wrong sooner or later. C'est la vie! This process reminds me somewhat of being pregnant Re: Building my first home... finally... 17Mar 16, 2010 9:31 pm goodyear This is not really something going wrong just not on time - we have learned to add time to each expected date and then we're not disappointed - fortunately for us now the building is going better than the plans and council approval. Re: Building my first home... finally... 18Mar 21, 2010 12:09 pm (Not so) Final plans finally arrived on Friday, but they've got a few errors - back to the drawing board... again. KEYS ON 5/11 AT 1PM Re: Everything ready to go EXCEPT the Final Plans!!! 20Mar 21, 2010 12:51 pm ah yes camyperth. I wasn't able to sleep on Friday night and haven't been able to bring myself to look at the plans again since discovering the errors. Very disheartening. I wish I could sit down with drafter and go through the plans with 'em on the computer - I'm sure it would probably take about 20-30 mins to get everything sorted out and the plans printed again. But no, it'll probably take another week or 2 before we get them back again - all because of a couple of minor issues Building SOR with Dreamstart Homes Customised Dream Dior/Summer Sensation https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=83776 We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds.
