Re: fireproofing entry doors 2Mar 04, 2010 8:10 pm This is exactly what we're dealing with right now. We've been stuck in council for entirely too long, and it's all due to our proposed bifold doors. While we don't have an approved solution yet, it's likely soon. What council, the RFS, and our bushfire consultant have said is that are makers of doors that have been proved to be acceptable up to Level 3 bushfire zones (Trend Doors). Seeing as our builder doesn't work with Trend, we're required to change the wood we use, then use a special varnish that helps with the "radiant heat flux". Merbau wood is considered to be a hardwood, and satisfies requirements of Level 3 bushfire. Unfortunately if you're above lvl. 3, not sure what's required, but hopefully you're not...
