Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Opinions on Dixon homes (Tamawood) and Hallmark please?? 2Mar 03, 2010 12:32 am The above mentioned builders are large volume / project type builders who rely on building hundreds of houses a year to: a) Get good buying power to make them a larger profit. b) Can build your house generally fairly quickly due to the amount of tradesmen working for them. But they can tend to lose control over quality / finish. c) Spend lots of $$$ on marketing etc... to suck you in with giveaways and promotions. You get nothing for nothing! You do get what you pay for. The starting prices on these style homes start low, so when you wish to add extras or change things etc... The price will start to rise quickly. E.g. Colorbond roof, larger floor tiles than specified, painted feature walls etc... it all adds up. IMO you can get a good house built by these types of builders but you can definitely build a much better house customized to your liking with a smaller / private type builder for comparable dollars when it all washes out. Dealing with the builder directly can have some great advantages instead of dealing with the site foreman who can at times be difficult in my experience. At the end of the day speak with all types of builders and see who your most comfortable dealing with, weighing up the pros and the cons of each. I have found this process a great start to making that all important decision. Best of luck Ask for references and speak to them.
