Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 26, 2010 1:37 pm Currently building a house in Albany WA, being built by WA BUILDERS who build in the COUNTRY Its past practical completion, they are currently just fixing all their blunders. Anyway check the effort the tiler went to for the WC floors, he cut the tile in half just to make his cut easier. We had to kick and scream to get these tiles replaced and according to our lovely supervisor we were 'lucky they arent cut diagonaly'. Tilers explanation for it was that its got better fall that way. Pft its a WC not a shower recess, looks like some first timers effort. Not only that but the tiler grouted everything including the movement joints, which according to our supervisor its better to do it that way and "its gives the silicone something to bond to". Re: Tiling standards. 3Feb 26, 2010 10:29 pm We don't have to have drains in our dunny areas anyway, our drains elsewhere are square and all cut around nice and neat, but I remember in my last house we had round drains and there were cuts from each corner to the drain I think with yours they could have done the grout darker on that cut to make it less noticeable. Re: Tiling standards. 4Feb 26, 2010 10:30 pm I personally think it looks quite neat. So if you don't like that its cut straight line (horizontal or vertical depending on how you look at it) and you don't want it cut diagonally, how exactly do you think it should be cut? First of all the tiles started to fall away from the wall after 3 months of moving in. I had the supervisor from the tiling company come out and say it will be all replaced. Later I got a phone call from the tiler stating he would be there the later in the week. When he arrived I asked him how he was going to do the job, I was told (much to my shock) he was only replacing the loose tiles and going over the old glue. I then stated to him that the tile will protrude from the wall and would be impossible to get them square. I was then told it would be ok and you would be able to tell. I call the build to complain about what I had just been told, the responded by saying it will be all to tiling standards (whatever that is?). Well I’ve attach some pictures of the tiling job I received and if I can ask some advise if I’m too fussy or if you would accept this job. I contacted the builder with these photos and without coming to look at the job they responded: “Our Construction Manager has viewed your pictures and advised the tiling has been completed correctly and can very is width depending on the width of the tile. No remedial work is required, as the tiling has been completed correctly.” Any suggestion on where to go from here? Notice the tile sit well out from the door architraves. http://picasaweb.google.com/10296027171 ... /Bathroom# Re: Tiling standards. 6Apr 05, 2010 10:01 am Slogger10 - I can't seem to open your photo.. is anyone else having issues? NCole - I would have asked to have it changed also...good on you. As you said, its not a shower base. The tiler in our place has done an absolute shocking job. I will go down today and take some pics to show you all... Re: Tiling standards. 7Apr 05, 2010 1:14 pm Error 404! Try posting the pictures again, I'm interested to see what the tiles look like! Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 4729 I believe this is correct. From the picture you can see the power was put in last so the electrician knew where the water was. Really it's a common sense issue more… 4 4455 2 6459 |
