There are quite a few of us building with Masterton - our common thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22483 Alot of individuals have their own thread about their build as part of their signature, so if you're looking for tips/advice/our experience I'd suggest you start those... or ask some specific questions Where are you building? What are we in for!!!!! LOL it's okay. My biggest concern is council. We are with warringah council. I had the understand that the pool and driveway all went in on the same DA? Now I'm being told something different. they have to be done separately. I guess I'l be spending some time on the phone tomorrow! If Masterton aren't doing the pool and driveway (which obviously they won't be) then you will need separate DAs or CDC's for those - whichever is applicable. Anyway welcome to the forum and be sure to ask us any questions! We've all been through enough to be a wealth of information!! Re: KDRB Masterton homes - Santorini with Fibreglass pool 6Mar 02, 2010 9:57 pm Hi everyone, We received our preliminary plans on friday. It was so exciting! some minor adjustments add a bit of space here put a sliding door there. our roofline is over 8.5m so we will have to excavate. We were trying to avoid this and using the natural gradient in the block split the house at the back to step up ( about 2 steps) so we wouldn't have to step up into our back yard, you know, walk out from the rumpus into our yard but it looks like we have no choice. We've made the laundry in the Santorini into a walk in pantry and slotted in a laundry next to it taking up a little bit of the rumpus. I'm so excited about this walk in pantry!!! LOL ( my husband calls it my mini supermarket) Looking at quotes for demolition our first quote came in at close to $18K I just about fell off my chair! Apparently there is 150sqm of asbestos to be removed!. (most of the old garage and the eaves) I'm really keen to sell off the windows doors kitchen and bathroom (which are little over 3 years old) etc. I was also told the copper wiring under the house is worth something too. The $18K quote annoys me because I know that they will sell half of this stuff and make even more money off us! we aren't they paying us!?! or at east providing a cash back for all the reusable/recyclable materials?? We are considering having a demolition sale. so just wondering the best way to go about that. if anyone has got some advice we'd be grateful. Reading all about your dealings with Masterton so far makes us a little bit apprehensive. We're wondering if the person we are dealing with now will be the person who will walk us through the whole way? In terms of all the preliminary paper work what would any of you do now that you would have done differently retrospectively? ciao for now Building The Santorini Custom BA Signed 22/09/10 DA Approval 20/1/11 Demo 28/2/11 Pool 18/3/12 Slab 22/07/12 Frame 24/8/12 Bricks 7/09/12 Roof 19/10/11 Blog http://santorinidreams.wordpress.com/ Re: KDRB Masterton homes - Santorini with Fibreglass pool 7Mar 02, 2010 9:58 pm Hi Guys, how are you all? we received our plans back with most of our amendments... hmmm. I can't believe how upset I got when I was told I HAVE to have standard ceilings! There is no way on this earth that I am going to the expense of BUILDING a house and living with standard height ceilings particularly when I'm married to a man who is 6ft2 and there is every chance my kids will grow to that height or more! ( my in laws make me look like shorter than short) We asked for a balcony of the living room and they have drawn up what I would call a ledge with a safety barrier! There is also a complete lack of creativity and inovation when it comes to bathroom design/layout...and I cant have a laundry chute! how is it I picked the perfect place for the chute as soon as i picked up the plans off the printer? Will keep you posted sending back more plans marked in red ! Do you mean on both the ground floor and the first floor? We're doing the Santorini as well and had no problem with increasing our ceiling height on the ground floor; but they did discourage us from raising the ceiling height on the first floor. They told us we'd probably have problems getting Council to approve it and it would likely lead to neighbour complaints because of the increased height but looking back that seemed a bit of a furphy. Still, we went back to the display home to look at the first floor ceilings and they looked fine so we left them as standard. I also wanted the house elevated slightly to catch the sea views from the east The way around it I suppose is to excavate more and have a very cleaver landscape designer! I was hoping to avoid excavating too much but what can I do and goodness knows what views we'll get now? For us the standard ceiling height on the first floor of the Santorini in Warwick farm gave a sense of feeling boxed in, where as That wasn't the case in Kellyville or in the top floor of the Villina. We are also putting in roof windows in the rumpus because that's our southern aspect... create more light. I'm concerne our kitchen will be too dark considering we have put in the laundry. making every attempt to make it "green", cross ventilation, natural light etc So looking at spending already before we even get our tender! I just read your thread and sounds like we are in very similar positions, albeit we are few weeks behind you... We are building in [edit] Council and also fell off our chairs when we got the Masterton tender quote back. Also trying to make our house as "green" as possibly with north orientation, cross ventilation. How are you going with the tender negotiations? Are you managing to get your sales rep to add anything to the inclusions????
