Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 24, 2010 8:26 pm Our builder is going to pave our driveway for us. l was wondering if anyone has had any problems in regards to weeds growing through the cracks. We haven't built yet but we've heard people say that it is better to get a concrete/ stenciled driveway totally confused Handover date 3rd August 2010 WOOHOO!!! Re: anyone have any problems with their paved driveway? 2Feb 24, 2010 9:13 pm The bonus with paved is that it is far less likely to crack as concrete can, and is also much more porous so that water can seep through and disperse into the ground. Perhaps you can speak with your builder about potentially applying some weedmat between the roadbase and sand layers? It should be cheaps and easy to install yourself if you can time it right. (assuming they are using roadbase and sand) Re: anyone have any problems with their paved driveway? 3Feb 24, 2010 9:26 pm Is it being laid on a concrete base or not? My brother did my parents and some other relatives about 25 years ago but always laid them on a concrete base. There is not a crack or mark in any of them and no worries about weeds. Re: anyone have any problems with their paved driveway? 4Feb 24, 2010 9:28 pm I've never had a problem with weeds with my paved driveways. I wouldn't make that a reason to switch to concrete. Re: anyone have any problems with their paved driveway? 5Feb 25, 2010 6:20 pm thanks for your replies l'm not sure whether they lay in on concrete first. Handover date 3rd August 2010 WOOHOO!!! Re: anyone have any problems with their paved driveway? 6Feb 25, 2010 6:23 pm I think a lot of the weeds grow in soil that collects on the surface between the pavers rather than growing up from below. Anyway, a bit of roundup and skimming over the surface with a brushcutter seems to do the job for us when it happens Cheers zeke Re: anyone have any problems with their paved driveway? 7Feb 25, 2010 9:05 pm Not to doubt you but I find it interesting that a builder would provide a paved drive way like you say. This is expensive especially when the paver need to be rated for car traffic. Are you sure they didnt just mean normal concrete by the term paving as it can mean concrete.
