Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Painting the garage floor 2Feb 24, 2010 7:44 am It's like anything, depends on your budget and needs, Ideally you'd have a professional applicator use an epoxy coating on it, It's expensive but will never peel or corrode, you can wash oil and contaminates from it and looks fantastic. Or you can go the cheap way and use a garage floor paint from like a dulux or similer paint supplier, they have a basic colour choice and gloss or low sheen, anti slip etc coatings but they look abit ordinary and dont hold up so great. http://www.garagedoctor.com.au/floor-colours.php epoxy floor website to give u an idea Re: Painting the garage floor 4Feb 24, 2010 10:23 am swarvy It's like anything, depends on your budget and needs, Ideally you'd have a professional applicator use an epoxy coating on it, It's expensive but will never peel or corrode, you can wash oil and contaminates from it and looks fantastic. Re: Painting the garage floor 5Feb 24, 2010 10:42 am We used a product from Concreters Warehouse called Staseal Premium. We were looking into the Dulux and Burger Jet Dry paints, but the surface needed to be acid etched first so the paint would adhere properly. http://www.concreterswarehouse.com.au/p ... emium-20lt With this product, we mixed in a solvent in the first coat which made the paint penetrate into the concrete, then the second coat was just the paint. It was applied with a stuff broom, making sure it was scrubbed into the concrete. There are a few photos here if you are interested: http://stormygirlscastle.blogspot.com/2 ... egins.html It's very easy to keep clean and sweeps out in no time. We've had no problems with hot tyres, but we did wait 5 days after the second application before we drove on it. It can be a little slippery if you have wet footprints, but the non slip surface may make it harder to clean due to the surface having small granules in it. So far it has been fabulous and I don't think it has chipped or scratched anywhere, and the paint certainly hasn't lifted where the car is parked. It's been down for about 5 months. Not sure if this is correct but i have been told with the hot car tyres it will lift the paint??? It would not lift the epoxy floor coatings, however it would eventually degrade the enamal coatings (cheaper products) Re: Painting the garage floor 7Feb 24, 2010 1:04 pm Any idea on ball park cost? would depend on the contractor, costings would be roughly $400 for material 8 - 12hrs labour @ $50ph im only guessing the material price going by what i know i pay for similer products, also if 4 litres didnt cover it (you had a large garage floor) then 8 litres may have to allowed for which would bump it up another $400. I would expect to have to pay 1k - 1.5k Re: Painting the garage floor 12Mar 07, 2013 6:55 am CC101 hi stormy - how is your garage floor now. Is it still as good as it was when you painted floor? No, not really, but it still does it's job and is easy to sweep out and saves the concrete dust from getting in the house...which is the reason why we did it in the first place. The paint has lifted a little where the tyres go, but the main reason for that is we still don't have a driveway, just sand/gravel. Once the driveway is done (this year), we will repaint the garage floor. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
