Browse Forums Building A New House Re: What things would you do after handover? 21Apr 27, 2014 5:38 pm hi we had our last house painted before we moved by a professional painter. He prepped all our walls, doors and the ceiling. you may just need to pay more. I am sorry but I cant help with the skirting boards. In perth they are an extra and most people don't have them. good luck Re: What things would you do after handover? 22Apr 27, 2014 8:41 pm Thank you 2-cupcakes-pls. Now I know I do not need to worry about the prep work! I can't say I have seen a house without skirting boards. Building in Perth is so different, I heard they use bricks inside too, is that right? Here in Canberra we only have bricks outside, inside is trusses and gyprock sheets... Building is both exciting and stressful Re: What things would you do after handover? 23May 02, 2014 8:20 am I have found out that if I am tiling or carpeting, the skirting boards can be completely attached before handover and it will be fine. Only for timber floors does the skirting need to be tacked on. Building is both exciting and stressful Re: What things would you do after handover? 24May 02, 2014 10:46 am Hi happysarah Yes our homes are made with double bricks and most of the homes are one level. The double storey home are popping up now due to the blocks getting to small. Re: What things would you do after handover? 25May 02, 2014 11:27 am Can anyone please give me an idea of the cost to get just the ducts put in for the A/C? We're building 2 storey and weren't going to put A/C in for a while as we have an awesome sea breeze but it's going to be harder to install under the top slab so wondering is just the ducts could be a way to go if cost effective enough? Personally I'd be looking at multiple split systems across several rooms. Remember heat rises, and cool sinks. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: What things would you do after handover? 27May 02, 2014 2:40 pm I wasn't sure if that was the 'done thing' now as thats what I wanted to do, will stick to splits then! Only for timber floors does the skirting need to be tacked on. Does that mean builder will give you the concrete flooring with skirtings on and when you do external tiling/ carpeting it will need to be removed and put back on ? I am also keen to do floorings externally, what else you're looking to get done after handover ? Depends what you're current inclusions are, but we're not including wardrobes and will just use second hand ones until we can save later on to get them built.
