Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building a new house with colex homes vic 2Feb 23, 2010 12:33 pm Hi melissa79, There is a thread on Colex homes, you can refer to that for more details. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=16308&hilit=colex We are almost at the end of our build with Colex. Whether you'll enjoy building with them will come down to what you expect from them. We had our fair share of frustrations in dealing with them. When you deal with them never expect verbal assurances given to be honored, if the assurances they give you are important to you try to get it in writing. If you are still dealing with sales try to be very clear about the inclusions, everything the sales say are included may not be included in the final contract. It might be a good idea to get a list of inclusions specific to your house signed by the sales rep. Cost of upgrades also might differ between head office and sales rep. When you pay progress payment make sure they have completed the stage that they are claiming for. They tried to claimed for frame stage before it was complete. We refused to pay until it was complete and we were treated as an outcast by Colex for that. They seem to be flexible about including or excluding items during the build. Their response rate to queries are resonably good. However, we find it difficult to get in touch with the site supervisor. We are concerned about the quality of their brick work as well, I can not make a definite comment on that until we get an independent inspection. From our experience they are not neither all bad nor all good. Every build seem to be different even with the same builder, don't expect everything to go smoothly, if you are lucky everything might go smoothly. Good luck. Re: Building a new house with colex homes vic 3Feb 24, 2010 10:00 am Thanks for your reply ...I have just read the thread. I am not at all surprised to hear of some of the frustrations of ppl building with colex , other than a few unhappy ppl ... i thought well it could of been worse !!! We have just had our slab laid on the weekend .. we too went through some frustrating times from the sales office to head office but got their in the end when speaking to John Xerri . Contractstook a long time to get our hands on .. and then we didnt have much opportunity to get to really say what we wanted at those meeting s whne u hand over the deposits with sales etc .. so by the time we got to voice our changes ..contracts had already been done .. so we ended up being stung a little more in fees. Then plans had to be changed ..cost a little more extra lol. ..Once we got contract s things have gone rather smoothly , picked our colours etc .. Our slab has just been laid this weekend gone. ...So far soo good ... just made 1st progress payment ..!! I am a little concerned on the insulation thing .. though !! maybe i should upgrade .. Thanks for your input .. and ill keep reradiong those forums .. hopefully i dont regret in choosoing them as our builder .. St Re: Building a new house with colex homes vic 5Aug 07, 2011 3:41 pm If anyone is contemplating a build with this company i'd strongly urge you to look else where. A friend of mine is 2 yrs into his build and they simply will not address the issues outlined in a handover inspection report. Walls are not plumb, paint work is ridiculously bad. Brickwork was done by a pack of kids. Stay away!! I have posted this before: We hired Darbecca to do every stage inspection, and I strongly recommend them to anyone that asks me. They were amazing. Thorough reports… 2 4495 Hi there! Putting the feelers out there for those who have (or almost) built with Arli homes!
