Re: The Feel of a New Estate 2Feb 20, 2010 8:08 pm is it great.. we love our estate.. and I've made more friends with neighbours in 6 months then I have in the last 8 years of renting. and yeah we have parks, lakes, walking tracks, primary school and about 15 shops already open in our town centre.. now I just have to get motivated to start using those walking tracks to get fit again! Re: The Feel of a New Estate 3Feb 20, 2010 8:30 pm We built our first house in a new estate and it was great at first, the majority were first home buyers and there was a real community atmosphere. We knew everyone in our street, most people met during the build. Walking the dog took ages because you would stop to talk so often! After three years or so the estate changed. People sold up and moved on and investors bought a lot of the properties. Once the parks came under control of the council rather than the developer maintenance went downhill. 10 years on we are glad we sold up because as you drive through our old estate now most of the gardens are run down or overgrown, the gutters all need repainting, it looks shabby. That said, we're building in another estate so we weren't put off!
