Re: New house in the Maples, Laurimar 22Apr 08, 2010 12:47 am We have a site scrape! Aparently the dozer was in today and had the site levelled before I could get there. I didn't even know that it was to be today. I'm really chuffed though! It's amazing how much dirt gets moved when you think it's a pretty flat block. I also met the next door neighbour who just happended to turn up as I was there. I'm just hoping the SS calls me to introduce himself. Building in the Maples, Laurimar. It is so exciting to see the start of your dreams come to life. Looking forward to watching the progress when we stalk our build!!! __________________________ M3tr1con Denver 32...Now 43!!! Love watching the Henley homes I'm impressed with all your mods to this plan guys, truly. You've really thought of everything. I particularly like the idea of being able to put doors on that back theatre area Can't wait for it to all get happening. Have sent you a PM about our experiences with ss P. There'll be hiccups on your journey for sure, but fear not, you'll emerge alive and home-ownered in the end Re: New house in the Maples, Laurimar 25Apr 09, 2010 10:57 am Thanks for the PM Fel, I'm looking forward to seeing progress now. We have a new tap and they've started marking pegging out the site. The admin has told us that the slab will be poured next week and I guess frame will start not long after that. I'm not worrying too much about the build. I will be keeping a close eye on it though. Just as long they're honest and communicate properly, I'll won't get the $hits. The moment I feel the wool over the eyes feeling, all hell will break loose. haha Thanks for reading and taking interest! Building in the Maples, Laurimar. The pre-slab footings are now in place but they cut through some plumbing pipes whilst digging the trenches. Now they have to repair 3 pipes. The slab gets poured next week or so they tell me. The admin told me that Monday was the day for pouring the slab and we happened to drop in today expecting to see some black plastic and reo in the trenches and found the slab had been finished and workers had disappeared. The weather was so good today that they must have decided to pour it today instead of Monday. I'm astounded that it happened so quickly. The size of the garage, porch and outdoor areas are massive! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rrRL_Y9nh0w/S8mzoEEpXKI/AAAAAAAAAGc/dcORzNi_xKc/s1600/amended+slab+with+positions.JPG http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rrRL_Y9nh0w/S8m4QMmrFrI/AAAAAAAAAGs/mfo5cuLb8do/s1600/P1030270.JPG http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_rrRL_Y9nh0w/S8m3R0WdyJI/AAAAAAAAAGk/km32qjMcVqc/s1600/P1030273.JPG http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rrRL_Y9nh0w/S8m7P6DC8ZI/AAAAAAAAAG8/qjXaMeC9oGQ/s1600/P1030267.JPG We bought a slab tonight just for fun! After 3 days we have a complete frame. Most windows are in and roof trusses are on. It's really starting to take shape. I reckon the roof will be on in a week. I drive past it every night and mentioned to my wife yesterday that things are progressing nicely. I was going to come up and say hi the other day when you were inspecting the slab, but it was drizzling and the kids were going nuts Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: New house in the Maples, Laurimar 33Apr 30, 2010 4:19 pm Hey Dave, no worries. We've been meaning to drop in also but will looks as though you've been busy each time or we've had to duck off. It's all good. I hope the kids are behaving! Ahh can't wait to have them! How'd you go with putting in the pool? We've been up there a fair bit watching the progress. Each time I go up there, something new is going on the place. Finally after all the waiting, I can see the house finally taking shape. It looks as though the build is going smoothly. At least I hope they're doing the right thing! The next door neighbour is about to start as they've got a portaloo on their property. This will be good to watch as well. I've also been watching Fitzy's house. That house is a mansion!! I really like the rooflines on it and the back patio. I saw Mr Fitzy there today taking photos but he wasn't there long and I missed saying g'day. Building in the Maples, Laurimar. It was good to meet you and have a yarn. Next one should be with beers. Sorry Fitzys, we didn't make it up on Sat. I'm sure we'll meet up in the near future though. Update - We've got the frame up now, all windows and frames are in and the gutters have been installed. Not long now before a roof goes on. Gotta love the progress! I haven't heard from my site supervisor yet. I'm trying to tee up a time to discuss a few things. I'm surprised how clean the site is. I thought the place would have looked like a bomb had hit it being a building site. Building in the Maples, Laurimar. I've been told that some homes lack water pressure in the area. Is there an easy way to boost your water pressure? We have a roof!! Doesn't it look awesome! We've got water pipes and gas through the house now. Just waiting on the brickie to start his work! Re waterlines, we've been told by a few people to silicone up the holes where the pipes go through the frame to stop water hammer. Does this still happen with plastic pipes? Re: New house in the Maples, Laurimar 38May 19, 2010 1:48 pm Wow, your build is motoring along, and the colourbond roof looks great! Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. Build Thread Re: New house in the Maples, Laurimar 39May 19, 2010 9:47 pm Thanks Erin, I'm hoping the pipe size is ok. My neighbour told me that he thinks the pressure is not good in our area in which case, we'll have to get a boost pump that can be added at the mains line entering the house. I'm looking for a decent colourbond tank to use as the toilets are going to be hooked up to it. I've had a look around and most start from about $1K. I know there are poly tanks out there but they don't last as long. Do you guys have a tank? Does Aaron know the best place to get metal tanks at the right price. The colourbond ones look bloody good. Glad to have the roof on. Really looking forward to the bricks starting now. The only problem with fast progress is that I hate it when nothing hapens after each stage, waiting for the next!!! Call me impatient! The SS seemed to not like the idea of using DR bricks. He says they look great but they are a pain for the brickies! It'll be worth the wait. I was thinking of building a red hardwood deck to go at the front. The neighbour recommends Marbou deck but I've heard most of this comes from Indonesia and is illegally shipped out. It is really nice wood and very durable but i'm not interested in supporting deforrestation in Indo so I'm not going to get this stuff. It's equivalent to Mahogany last century (prized wood but none left now due to exploitation). This will also happen to Marbou but will also destroy habitats that live there. And there are a lot. I need to find some really nice wood that comes from Australia that comes from a plantation. More reseach do do! Building in the Maples, Laurimar.
