Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 18, 2010 10:27 am Hi Everyone, New to this forum but so far have gotten lots of handy hints with building!! My partner and I recently bought a cottage style block in the new Shorehaven estate at Alkimos in Perth. We have discussed with a few builders but have got a great design, with tweeks, with Content now and are just finalizing a few things before we go ahead & pay our deposit. Titles on the land are due next month & we want to start building by at least August, hopefully this is possible! Does anyone have experience with 'Content' or building in a similar area? Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 2Feb 18, 2010 11:07 pm Hi There, We are also building in Alkimos. We are building The Oasis by Celebrations. My Parents built with Content 3yrs ago and they didn't have too much trouble at all, just a couple of tiny problems that pretty much everyone has when building. They have a gorgeous house. Good luck!! Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Good luck with everything Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 4Feb 19, 2010 12:41 am Welcome to H1 ashcol viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 5Feb 19, 2010 7:54 am Great how exciting! We have settled on the Waterlilly with Content with a few minor changes. Just about to pay deposit & get going with the drawings... Titles are anticipated for March so we'll just have to wait & see! Hopefully the estate will be just as gorgeous as they make it look on the Shorehaven website Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 6Feb 19, 2010 9:55 am Welcome to the forum. I would love to be building at shore-haven at the Alkimos.. but alas am not lol.. I am sure it will be fantastic. Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 7Feb 19, 2010 1:38 pm ashcol- Are you in central or the rise?? Did you camp out for your block?? We should hopefully have our building contracts next weeks so we can get unconditional approval so we are ready to settle soon as the titles are released. I really don't want to miss out on the bonuses. I really think Shorehaven will be gorgeous. They have so many plans there and there is just so much interest in it. I can't wait for the roads to go down, we have been bush bashing it to go and have a look at our block LOL Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. We are actually currently in Melbourne so we had an agent camp out for us!! It was such a stress trying to decide what to do, just seemed too expensive to both fly over to camp! But thankfully we got the block we wanted! Yes we're very keen to settle & start building in time for the bonuses!!! Certainly don't want to miss out on either!! Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 9Feb 24, 2010 2:19 pm Hi ashcol, We have only just got the internet connected. We have sold our house and have just moved into a rental while we build. Things are crazy at the moment and can not believe that we will be doing this in another 12mths or so We are in the central. Our block is 512sqm. We only live 5mins from Shorehaven so we can keep a very close eye on the build. Are you hoping to move to Perth soon or waiting until your house is built? We have just got our date for prestart, the 11th of March Am really looking forward to it. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Pre-start complete 25th March 2010 Titles due April 2010 Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 10Feb 25, 2010 8:24 am No we will be moving to Perth shortly, definitely before building starts! At the moment I'm just getting my parents to pop up & give me updates on the land clearing, last time I was there at Christmas I could see where our block was being marked out... now they have put in the retaining walls & steps up to the block!! Very exciting We will be staying at my parents in Currambine whilst the house is being built, so not too far away! This is our first home so very exciting! The Oasis looks lovely... we really wanted to go with Celebrations, they have a really good rep & their homes were beautiful, we just had to be careful with money seeing as we went 'slightly' over budget with the land! Just couldnt resist! Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 11Feb 25, 2010 9:39 am Oh that's great that you will be moving here. So you will be able to watch your house go up!! We go out to the block about once a week or so just to check it out. I don't think the roads are too far away at all. Yep we had the dilema of what side to go, in the end we didn't have much of a choice as we have a german shepard and want to get another when we move. Also have a 2.5yr old so we really need a bigger block. Some of the blocks in the rise have some lovely ocean views!! Gorgeous spot. Do you know when you will have prestart?? They have a few covenants out there don't they. But nothing that is too hard to adapt too. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Pre-start complete 25th March 2010 Titles due April 2010 Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 12Feb 25, 2010 11:08 am Definitely understand where you're coming from... we're the opposite, just the two of us & are happy with the low maintenance size of the cottage block so we were happy enough to go for the smaller block. We do have the dog dilema though as we'd really love to get one & prefer bigger dogs. We'll just see when we get in how much space there is & go from there. We don't have a date for pre-start yet. Just waiting for the drawings to come back & make sure we are happy with the structural changes etc.. Yep at first I was thinking there were a lot of covenants but the builder said there's nothing too out of the ordinary there. Apart from the "touch of white" etc, luckily we quite like the lighter colours so wont be too much of a problem! Going on the progress do you think titles will end up being March?? Making sure we get that all settled as soon as possible... looking forward to my Myer voucher haha Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 13Feb 25, 2010 11:37 am I think the Rise sounds perfect for you! And with the way that Shorehaven looks to be designed even if you do get a big dog I think you will have gorgeous walkways and parks to walk anyway. The cottage blocks are still a nice size anyway so you will just love it. Yeah even before I read the covenants I wanted a surfmist roof and white window frames so all suites me just fine I have always loved the lighter and fresh colours. Oh it is just so exciting. My husband thinks that late March seems to be spot on for the titles. When we were there in Monday all the services were in the ground and then apparently the roads are not too long after that. Hahahah!! Yes the Myer voucher. Gee that is going to be fun walking in there with $5k to spend. Wooohoooo!!! Am thinking a dishwasher and possibly a lounge or TV. My husband said I can have $500 to spend on myself but I think it will still be spent on the house Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. I love how the alfresco comes off the family room. And the kitchen at the end. Very nice!! Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Pre-start complete 25th March 2010 Titles due April 2010 Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 15Feb 25, 2010 12:50 pm Oh thanks we have made a few changes, just made the ensuite a bit bigger & also added a little study nook in ... I'll pop the plans on tomorrow! We'd been through a display here in Melbourne with the Alfresco in the middle & it just opens the house up a lot.. especially with a smaller house like that it just tends to create that feeling of space! I think it's going to be gorgeous up there and in a few years when the freeway & train line get up there it will be just perfect! I must admit the though of spending some of the myer vouchers on clothes is tempting but it will be so nice to have new things around the house, especially if it's money you didn't have & don't have to dip into savings for So are you pretty set for the pre-start? I know Celebrations have a good list of specs Re: Building at Alkimos WA... 16Feb 25, 2010 1:43 pm Yeah I agree. Shorehaven is in such a perfect spot. It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere at the moment but you are 3mins to Brighton central and then all of 5mins to Ocean keys shopping centre and yep with the freeway and train line I think it is set to become pretty big!! I have enrolled my Daughter to start at the new school too Would love to see your plans!! I will have to get my husband to take our plans to work and scan them too. Just don't want to let them out of my sight until prestart at the moment, coz god knows he will loose them or mark them!! We haven't made many changes to our plan apart from adding a splash back to the kitchen sink and also some door frames too the study, theatre and laundry....my husband can hang the doors himself and we added a sliding door to the hallway. We also increased the size of the garage slightly. My husband had a huge workshop in our last place so he needs somewhere for his tools, I know he will miss his workshop. Yeah I think we are pretty organised for prestart. The good thing with Celebrations is everything is in one room. We really don't need to upgrade anything either as I like all their standard range...also helps with the budget too. Not sure what siteworks have come in at but have allowed $9k. Will find out at prestart the total. The Myer voucher and the land rebate we havn't factored into our budget....just in case we missed out. But it looks like everything is going smoothly so think we will be fine so the bonuses are certainly going to help us out when it come to flooring and then other little bits and pieces. I think my daughter will have to get something special from Myer too Have you seen how much the land prices have increased since we bought our blocks! We were very happy indeed and my husband said that having the sleepless night camping out for the block was worth it! Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis.
