Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 18, 2010 12:30 am Is anyone else experiencing problems with Boral suddenly (and without prior notice) discontinuing bricks and unable to fill orders for bricks? It appears they have suddenly discontinued some of their brick product range at the end of January and are not able to complete orders for those discontinued bricks. If you have experienced this problem in the past or are currently experiencing this problem then please reply. Re: Problems with Boral - Bricks 2Feb 18, 2010 2:59 pm Which brick range/names specifically? Unbelievable, they have had our order since November. Re: Problems with Boral - Bricks 4Feb 20, 2010 3:13 pm I do know that Boral had their shutdown over Christmas. Every five years or so, Boral, Austral etc completly shut down to knock down and rebuild their kilns. It's a huge job, and unavoidable. December that just passed marked Boral's turn. They are only just starting up again, so some delays are going to happen. I found this out at my colours appointment, as apparently a whole heap of people had to re select from the Austral range. Apparently it will be Austral's turn Christmas '10. My house and my rants.... - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=26937 We are in!!!...and still unpacking. Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: Problems with Boral - Bricks 5Feb 22, 2010 8:04 am Ironbark !!! really. You should have had no issues with Ironbark. It is one of their most common bricks. Are you in a regional area? Deliveries can be held up to re-sellers in regional (non-capital) areas however I would be very surprised if Ironbark was not available in metro cities. MPCJ - They do not knock down and rebuild their kilns. That would be an incredible task that would esentially cut their capacity down for a year or more. I think you may be refering to Selkirk Bricks and Austral Bricks. Selkirk's second kiln is currently damaged and they are not running anywhere near their former capacity. Austral have moved location. They have shut down their knoxfield plant in Vic early 2009 however they are in a new location and whilst they did have a little down time, they aren't too badly under stocked. If you will recall; The goverments fiscal stimulus package included millions of dollars to be spent on schools over the next few years. This has placed a massive demand on bricks the likes of which i do not think the country has seen. All brick companies are under pressure however all are coping fairly well. This also extends obviously to insulation however with the rebates for insulation scheme being scaled back as of last friday, we should see product become a little more easy to get. First Batch delivered were completely wrong colour to what they were supposed to be . SS tried to convince us they were ok and just accept them and even Boral rep said they were fine. We decided to conduct an unbiased experiment and visited the Boral display centre and showed the Boral staff a sample brick from our site. We asked them to identify which product it was and they instantly identified it as the Blackheath brick – NOT the Leura as we had selected. Its a long story but lets just say we had to fight hard to get the to take them back and finally get a batch that was ok,or so we thought until this week. To my horror the final delivery of bricks from the new batch had some of the old wrong colour and brickies had done a whole row of them which stood out "like you know what" My husband met Boral rep on site today who tried to convince him they were ok ..I think they think we are stupid ..I am waiting on them to be taken away..so sick of having to demand what I paid for in first place..grrrr. Re: Problems with Boral - Bricks 8Feb 24, 2010 9:55 pm Yep, Boral have been a nightmare with most of their bricks out of stock. We were advised in mid Jan that we wouldn't have our bricks until mid Feb. Admittedly they did arrive on the date quoted but in the meantime we have had a shut down on site (on top of 6 weeks over Chriistmas - yes, 6 weeks!). This brick problem has cost us $1200 in mortgage repayments - its just horrible. We were told the batch due to us came out the wrong colour - I think the problem was more pathetic and unorganised than that! Good luck! Re: Problems with Boral - Bricks 9Feb 25, 2010 4:58 pm Our project has turned into a nightmare. We have a half finished house made out of bricks that Boral has run out of and is refusing to produce any more saying they are now discontinued. We have been forced to close the site. Our most likely option is we are going to have to knock down the walls that have already been put up and send the Boral bricks to the dump. It is nothing short of a disgrace on the part of Boral. I would never have believed this could happen if it wasnt happening to me. Re: Problems with Boral - Bricks 10Feb 25, 2010 11:38 pm Do anyone know whether Boral Heritage is on the discontinued or shortage list??? We also have a front face brick that they have run out of supply. They told us the same story about a problem with the batch and have added an extra month's delay to the delivery date.
