God everytime I think about it I get so excited Thanks so much for your comments dearhouse, jessie87, 2pais, vanilla tree and Anna1. There hasn't really been too much too report so I've been busy keeping up with what you are all doing. After fixing stage its only little bits here and there that get done so not quite exciting as getting a slab, frame or roof but still exciting for me Hi casey - was thinking of you guys on Tuesday (not in a stalkerish kind of way ) You don't have your own thread so I thought I'd give you a couple of these from mine ... YOU'RE IN So how's the big move been??? You probably won't be able to reply for awhile until you get the internet up and running and unpack a few hundred boxes You're so lucky to be on the other side but I guess now the hard work starts Best of luck with everything!!! Hi roadkill - well in the end we decided not to get an independent inspector in ... we did contact handovers.com but after speaking with our SS we feel quite confident that everything will be okay. He did reassure us that they would do a thorough inspection and everything would be fixed before handover ... yes, I know, most people would say that's his job to do that ... but we've pretty much had a hassle free build (VERY, VERY lucky) - brother-in-law and uncle (both in the "industry") have done their own inspection of the place and both went in ready to rip the build apart but came out surprised and impressed with the work that had been done. I'm crossing my fingers that we're right about this. and don't end up doing this Re: Bedrock!!!...We have a date...for PCI! 163May 13, 2010 11:09 pm Well I just noticed I'm a Silver Member ... whatever that is RoadkillNZ Only 5 days left, you must be really happy, was busy at our house today moving bricks out of the way of the site clean up that they are doing tomorrow - yay !, and we noticed that there was at least one ute at your place all day, and a second one for some of the day so they would of been busy doing stuff for you. We laughed the other day at our house when we saw the toilets in after reading your story we had images of people using them, but the plumber put a huge sign on both - "DO NOT USE !, water and sewerage not connected." We have been given a rough completion time of 3 weeks time, so we are happy about that, so we should not be too far behind you for moving in. Hey Rk -I'm pretty sure one of those belongs to the cleaning lady ... met her yesterday, she was lovely ... the other could possibly have been the SS. I hope they were VERY busy Oooooh you're plumber was very good ... it should be standard policy to put those notes on every toilet for every build ... the poor cleaning lady would've had to clean that out yesterday .....ewwwwwwwwww. WOOHOO ... THREE WEEKS!!!!!! You could possibly be in BEFORE July!!! Re: Bedrock!!!...We have a date...for PCI! 164May 14, 2010 1:53 pm I can't believe you have only 4 sleeps until PCI, how exciting!! I am so happy for you, makes you smile everytime you think about it I am sure. We also werent sure about a Building inspector??? I know it makes sense to get an independent & my brother bought a new house of a builder & they have had all sorts of problems & they paid a bomb for their new house. Are we being to trusting???? I couldnt believe the toilet scenerio! Ewwww, that is disgusting I cant believe people do that & not think someone has to clean that. The poor cleaning lady I bet she has seen the works! Re: Bedrock!!!...We have a date...for PCI! 165May 14, 2010 3:24 pm Pebb;es-just had a read through-congratulations! We are also building on an acre and our feature tile in the main bathroom is the same as yours-but in the brown tones-so I love yours! . BTW- I also think that your splash back is gorgeous! Hi jodie - Wow you're at lock up already very exciting! Have you been locked OUT? Hmmmm too trusting ... in my case...YES!!! Are we doing the right thing by NOT getting an inspector???... I don't know I think if I had any trust issues with my builder and we had had A..N..Y problems along the way I would most definitely get one. I'll let you know in FOUR more sleeps whether I made the right decision or not. Deemaree Pebb;es-just had a read through-congratulations! I'm crossing my fingers that we're right about this. and don't end up doing this I reckon if you have someone you trust looking out for you like bil & uncle & you had no concerns during the build, you should be ok. You are sooooooooo close now....bet you dont get much sleep next few nights! Cheers Kim Re: Bedrock!!!...We have a date...for PCI! 168May 15, 2010 12:48 am I think you should be ok not getting a inspection as your build has gone so well and there is the 6 month maint period which if you pick something up it should get fixed and I would say yuor builder will be good looking at things like that. So have you finished packing yet ready ?, not long to go at all now, bet you wish you could of stored things in the garage during the w/e They didn't manage to do our site clean on Friday , so I hope that is not a delay that will put things back. I was going to do lots of photos of the house with the site cleaned up for putting on FB. We found that the bricks were uneven at the top of our entranceway today yesterday as well, so hoping it is bricks that are lopsided not the frame as that could delay things. But it looks like we have just about all our plumbing in now at least, and we finally are getting our doorway tile feature sorted at the start of next week after 2 1/2 weeks of trying to sort it out. But it is finally starting to look like a house, but nowhere as good as yours did when we went through. If I was to win Lotto, I would build with a different builder, now to win lotto Re: Bedrock!!!...We have a date...for PCI! 169May 15, 2010 6:35 pm Hi there, we built with Hallmark 4 years ago and had no problems either. We didn't use Handovers.com for our handover, but got the cheaper inspection at the 6 month maintenance mark. They found heaps of little stuff we never would have noticed and Hallmark fixed everything no questions asked. That could be an option for you as well if you want to. We are building again, on an acre at Teviot. We are building the flair that is based on the Catena. Is there anything else on the flair that you wish you upgraded? It is hard imagining anything that isn't included that we had last time apart from the obvious (shower screens, kitchen etc). Would love to see more pics of your house! Our Hallmark home will start next week. Sounds like you had a great build. We have built with them twice (the last time was about 9 years ago) and highly recommend them. Always a pleasant experience. BTW, what was your SS's name? We will be starting our own blog shortly. Just completed build with Hallmark Homes Re: Bedrock!!!...We have a date...for PCI! 171May 16, 2010 12:04 pm We saw a Ute outside your place again today, although I am wondering how much they have left to do to warrant a Sunday trip lol. It looked close to finishing the other week. Hi Greenhaven and emlet01 - soooooooooooo good to have more Hallmarkers here!!! Especially ones who have built with them before! I've heard LOTS of stories of people who have built with them more than once which is very reassuring, one person has built the same house FOUR times The only dramas we've had have been with council and "The Rock" but other than that the build has been great Our SS is Glenn ... haven't really had much contact with him as we've had nothing to complain about although I'd hoped he would have updated us on what was happening during our build. The only way we knew was to visit the block everyday .... but we didn't mind emlet01 Hi there, we built with Hallmark 4 years ago and had no problems either. Yes...I agree with you and Rk - we'll wait until the maintenance check to see if we should get an inspector in or not ... hopefully it'll be all good emlet01 We are building again, on an acre at Teviot. I'm pretty sure we only upgraded the kitchen - I was busy with the kids and DH upgraded it as a surprise for me and I'm soooooo glad he did - I LOVE my kitchen We've thought about it a lot and really can't think of anything else that we really "needed" .... "WANTS" are another thing though MORE pics ... hopefully everything will go well tomorrow and I'll have heaps of pics of our FINISHED house Can't wait to see yours and Greenhaven's plans, will be following both your threads ... will give me something to do after we move in ... besides unpacking, landscaping, unpacking, more landscaping ... Hope all goes well. Ours was really quick as we had the keys from day dot. Hope all goes well and enjoy settling into your new home. This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this. As for the unscheduled site visits, most builders are quite… 1 28290 |
