We're seriously considering it too ... sometime NEXT year ... just got our second electricity bill which was $200 more than the first one ! Integral has put their prices up and our usage went up an extra 1000kwh - I don't know what on though?!?!?!?! Going to look into changing the pool to a different tarriff ... that might help a bit ... I hope! Our neighbours haver solar - first bill was about $300 and second $150 ... how good is that! Epp that is a lot of extra usage, have you checked if they read the meter wrong ?, hopefully it is not the pool using a lot. We are getting ours at the end of Jan/start of Feb from Allsafe (The one that keeps advertising the "Green News in the local paper every 2 weeks or so). We are hoping by going to the 4kw system we actually get money back from the power company . Do you know how big the nieghbours system is ?, trying to remember how many panels they have, I think it is 8 from memory so it would make it a 1.5 - 2.0 kw system. Looking forward to having them and having no or next to no power bills, now if there was only something we could do about the fixed water charges.... If I was to win Lotto, I would build with a different builder, now to win lotto Re: Bedrock!!!...6 months later + pics! 369Nov 29, 2010 2:37 pm Hey Pebbles, we are renting at Flagstone at the moment, so just around the corner from you. We get the same comments about being "sooooo far away" and people joking that they have to fill up with Petrol on the way LOL. We are building at Teviot so will be about the same distance from town etc in the new house. I get sick of the comments, but at the end of the day it is still worth it for the space and peace!!! I'm sure you've worked out what the extra power costs have come from by now, but just in case you don't, when you move from suburbia out on to tank water as we use out here, your water pump can use quite a bit of electricty throughout the year. I've got a Dab Esybox pump, which is a variable speed drive pump, and will save a lot in electricity in a year. They're not cheap, mine was $1270 to buy. Pool pumps also come in a variable speed drive variety too, with claims of saving 90% of your electricity costs, however if you have a Kreepy Krauly you need to set the pump up to run at a much higher flow rate for so many hours per day for the Kreepy to work properly. In Queensland, you can put your pool pump on to tariff 33 (off peak), which runs for around 18 hours per day, and some times the full 24 hours. In fact you can put any hardwired appliance on to tariff 33 or 31, but pool pumps are allowed to remain plug in as an exception to that rule. Those with a/c split systems put some of them on to tariff 33 to lower their electricity costs. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
