Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 15, 2010 11:13 am This morning before I started work I went past our block (quite common for me as I'm a little on the obsessed side) to find that our recently delivered cedar windows for the front of the house have been stolen. They were delivered last Wednesday or Thursday but were waiting to be installed. On Friday we also had our custom order 200x200 solid cypress beams for the front of the house delivered. They were also stolen! Now this is going to delay our build as the brickies were suppose to start before the end of the week. Maybe we're looking at a 1-2 week delay? We are building through Hermitage Homes and there is insurance in place for this sort of thing but do we have to pay excess? Has anyone else had this sort of problem and how was it dealt with? I was so angry when I saw these things missing this morning. /end rant Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: Damn THIEVES! Way to start the week 2Feb 15, 2010 11:19 am Bugger You don't have to pay anything, it's the builders stuff for now so they pay for it all - although it does end up working it's way into house prices in general 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' We had windows, copper, beams & lintels taken. We didn't have to pay anything, everything was covered by the builder. Did it take long for replacement to arrive? The windows are just an off the shelf Cedar double glaze window. Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: Damn THIEVES! Way to start the week 6Feb 15, 2010 11:56 am GSK I feel for you, some people are so irresponsible and immature. They need to be brought up sharp and taught to live in a civilised society. Hope Karma decides to make a special date with them. Re: Damn THIEVES! Way to start the week 8Feb 15, 2010 5:02 pm Unless specified in yor contract the builder pays any excess, in regards to delays they also have to finish in the time specified in the contract. But its still make you angry. There are group out there that just drive around building sites and steel whatever they can. The builder has put up our cedar door I also drive past everyday to make sure they are still there. Hopefully having security camera's at each entrance and exit to the estate puts people off stealing. Way to start the week 9Feb 15, 2010 5:07 pm I've got some surveillance gear from a warehouse that I had that I'm going to use around the house once it's complete but there's nowhere for me to put it at the moment. I'm much calmer than I was thosmorning when I saw the stuff gone. I had to convince my DP that it was alright because it will give us an extra week or 2 to save for furniture. Didn't want to wreck her day at work. Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: Damn THIEVES! Way to start the week 10Feb 15, 2010 5:20 pm Now I understand why our builder had the carpenters install all of the windows the day they were delivered - and we have quite a few!. We thought the wood framing for our house would disappear before it was used after it had been left at the site for a while. Someone pulled up in a ute and started looking at it on a weekend. They were on their mobile with someone but then quickly drove off after they saw my wife at the back of the block. We think she luckily scared them away. Re: Damn THIEVES! Way to start the week 11Feb 15, 2010 5:29 pm The frustrating bit is that I met with the site supivisor onsite on Friday and he was annoyed that the windows weren't installed yet. They were suppose to be installed the day they arrived. Hopefully the thieves don't come back for the bi-folds which were luckily untouched. I've seen it happening - usually around 10pm at night cops will come if you call them when you see things happening. Re: Damn THIEVES! Really? It is frustrating but not really anything that can be done about it! We were at Emma's sisters house on Friday night and we saw people going around stealing things as we were leaving - this was in Tarneit but it happens at every construction site even CBD ones.
