Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 06, 2008 9:09 pm We were away for the last 2 days while some Stack Stone which we had bought interstate was applied by a professional tiler. We came home today to see the finished job and were shocked when we saw the colour as it is different to what we purchased. I checked the boxes/receipts and took photos of our house and brought them home to compare with the company's website and they have clearly sent us the wrong colour despite the packaging showing the right colour. Now it's all been tiled and applied and doesn't match our colours. It is the most expensive feature on our house and now my wife and I are so so upset and feeling helpless I have emailed the company with photos asking for their opinion... Does anyone have any ideas? please help Building for the 1st time with M3tricon Site Start was 19th July 07. It's been 2 weeks to Handover for the past 8 weeks. Go figure. Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 2Apr 06, 2008 9:14 pm Keep the packaging. If the contents don't match what you ordered then I would say they supplier will need to supply you with the right colour, pay for the replacement and, if your build time is extended, a late fee. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 3Apr 06, 2008 9:14 pm is the colour they have laid unbearable to live with or is it not too bad? obviously you shouldnt have to accept the wrong colour but if its not too bad maybe the company will offer discount for the ones supplied as would be alot cheaper than relaying the right ones.. Seems the manufacturer has put the wrong label on the boxes and the tiler isnt to know he just lays them. Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 5Apr 06, 2008 9:20 pm We could live with the colour, but it's just so upsetting as it looks nothing like the colour we ordered. And to think it's the most expensive feature just breaks your heart.
This job was totally independent from the builder; I sourced the product myself interstate and then found a tiler who knows his stack stone to lay the product. The 2 tonne of stone was delivered in a sealed crate and all the boxes had the right description on them and it never occured to me to pull the crate apart and open a box to check. Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 10Apr 06, 2008 9:39 pm I really feel for you.. Not the sort of surprise you want to come home to... If its any consolation to you having had a look at the pics- it look ok to me.
As Casa2 says keep all the packing, order form etc and advise the company of their mistake. Hopefully they will make a big effort to remedy the situation.. Good luck Raz This is the 2nd time I write this post... frst one just disappared into the blck hole... so if you see two of these ... well you know. If you think you can, you can. Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 12Apr 06, 2008 9:42 pm Some of the suggestions are to consider accepting it. To me, it's simple. Find out who made the mistake and get them to fix it. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 13Apr 06, 2008 9:46 pm i mean seriously the chance of getting the product replaced, delivered and then retiled after the old one has been removed all at the cost of the supplier is next to nil... I have emailed the MD of the company in a very polite but upset tone - i wonder what he'll have to say for himself Building for the 1st time with M3tricon Site Start was 19th July 07. Help... 14Apr 06, 2008 9:52 pm Hi ricci, i agree that the greyish look is better suit to your facade, as it blend together with the colour of roof and garage door.
try your best and aim high, if at the end the best option cannot be done, at least you tried. all the best. Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 15Apr 06, 2008 10:00 pm I simply wouldn't accept that. The color you chose works great and the one you ended up with doesn't. I'd keep persuing it - it should be obvious to the supplier once they look at the receipt and then the photos to see that they supplied the wrong stone. It will be pretty hard for them to deny.
I'd hate for them to get out of it and for you to feel so defeated - I'd go in with the attitude that they WILL replace it and they WILL pay to have it redone. In the end maybe they will replace it but not pay to have it redone. I'm interested to know how much that stuff costs and what it is to lay - I'm sure it wasn't cheap which is why I wouldn't give up.. Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 16Apr 06, 2008 10:10 pm Hi Ricci
It actually doesn't look that bad on the picture you have provided, but after your following post with the correct colour I can see why you would be disappointed. No matter what, it will always stand out to you both and you will always see it as a mistake and never be happy with it...... Very disappointing for you, hope it all works out. Bernie. Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 17Apr 06, 2008 10:22 pm Ricci stick with it....keep on the supplier and see how it goes?
We are also going with the colour that you originally wanted, but for a retaining wall... Can i ask, how long ago was the delivery? What are the terms of the sale? Were you asked to check the goods and sign to accept the delivery? Does the supplier have ANY comeback there? Definitely keep the boxes as proof, if it's their muck up, then demand that they fix it or compensate you adequately... Go get 'em!!!! Good Luck!!! Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 18Apr 07, 2008 9:39 am Whilst the colour that they have put up isn't too bad IMO, I can totally see your point and I also agree that the colour you ordered works a lot better with your colour scheme.
I would be asking who signed for the delivery as they should have had a record of the colour that you ordered. Human error does occur, but by simply looking at the packaging they should have been able to see that the company had delivered the wrong colour. I hope that this is all resolved for you quickly and to your satisfaction. Dana -------------------------- Building with DFH - carpet installed! Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 19Apr 07, 2008 11:08 am Was there something written on the packaging along the lines of "the installer is responsible for ensuring the contents are of correct color before installation, no responsibility is taken by the manufacturer once product is installed"?
A very large amount of tile manufacturers include a clause like this on their packaging specifically to protect themselfs from situations like this. I just had a large number of tiles delivered and noticed a clause like that on the packaging that tripped my mind to this thread. Good luck, id be pritty ticked off if it happened to me.... Re: Is There Anything We Can Do??? Help... 20Apr 07, 2008 11:35 am We had a similar situation...but ours was much easier to rectify!
