Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 10, 2010 4:49 pm Can anyone help? We are wanting to get Home Automation. Our builder has restricted us to a certain electrical company who we are not all that happy with. After a year of tooing and froing with costs, the builder is now happy for us to go direct through the electrical contractor, rather than having the builder margin put on top. HOWEVER, we must still use their electrical contractor (who remember we do not have a lot of confidence with) and it WILL NOT be covered under the house insurance. So our options: leave everything as is and accept a really pricey cost (which just exceeds our budget) OR go through the Electrical Contractor independently (save possibly up to $10000) and try to find a company who can provide insurance on building mistakes (I'm sure there will be problems with this company with the installation - I've already had lots of people tell me NOT to use them at all). I'm leaning towards the second option, BUT, we need to know of insurance companies that will cover this in SA. We are more than willing to pay a little extra to save up to $10000. What do you think we should do? Do you know of any insurance companies that will cover what we need? If they do not have their own insurance then I would never use them to start with! If you are an owner builder yourself and have an electricians license then you can have cover under a policy which is construction insurance. Please see the link below and read the PDS before making any decisions: http://www.cgu.com.au/cgu/sme/building- ... rance.aspx Regards, Tranceozzy Re: Insurance for building - HELP PLEASE. 3Feb 12, 2010 5:58 pm Thank you so much Tranceozzy. I will be sure to follow that up. We have current house and contents insurance with CGU, so was hoping to go through them if needed. Will check it all out with the Electrician first though just to see if separate insurance is required or if they will cover any stuff ups. Thanks once again. Really appreciated!
