Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 3Feb 09, 2010 11:29 am Hi There We signed with DA early November. We've just signed our contracts - pre-start in 3 weeks time and we'll be on the construction list for April (provided our titles get issued). This would give us completion mid to late October. We built with DA 10 years ago and had no hesitation re-signing with them. I have been really impressed with our Sales guy. PM me if you want his name. Cheers jbarry My build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25713 13th Oct - Offer on block 4th Dec - Settlement of block scheduled (delayed due to titles) 22nd Feb - Titles Issued 17th Mar - Land Settlement 17th Mar - Pre-start meeting Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 4Feb 09, 2010 3:01 pm Hi Gizmo19 We are building with Dale Alcock. Its taken a while, but our siteworks are due to start today! Will drive by on the way home to see if they actually have... Our slab is due next week. So far we have been pretty happy, a few mistakes here and there by drafting and prestart, but they were fixed quickly. The showroom was very handy when it came to pre-start selections, and we really didn't spend as much as I thought we would on upgrades. We went external for tiles, and they offered mitred tiles without us even asking for it. I'm looking forward to actually seeing something happen at our block - we are one of the last houses in our street to start and it appears other builders have been "borrowing" our sand and then dumping leftover cement and other rubbish on our block . Good luck with your build! Fingers crossed they both go really well. Cheers! Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 5Feb 09, 2010 11:11 pm thanks Candylea I will give that a try How long ago did you finalise your pre-start variations with DA? I am just trying to gauge how much longer it may be til the slab goes down. DA says about 4-6 weeks but they hope it is sooner. Still not decided on the tile selection - so how much extra did they charge you to get your tiles externally? As you know the selection they have is very limited and even the upgrades they have are only 5-6 combination boards. Where did you go? BTW do you have a thread? Our sales rep said that if we signed the preliminary agreement by the end of Jan we'd be in the house by end of Feb 2011. So perhaps if you recall your prelim agreement sign date, that will give you an idea? There's a DA house going up around the corner from us. Block was cleared and slab laid in December. They've now got the roof timbers up, so I imagine not too long until lockup? It looks like a Cable Beach, as best I can tell, lol. I'm enjoying watching it all happen. Ta Hi Bagheera We weren't too interested in the the builder's selection either. We had to get a letter from DA authorising us to go external and were advised we would be charged an admin fee (can't recall exactly and it isn't broken down in our pre-start variation, but was around $200). We went to European Ceramics (you could also go to Crosby) and did end up spending an additional $2K on tiling for both bathrooms, but that was 300x300 floor tiles, 100x300 wall tiles, tiling 1150mm around the walls, an additional border tile and mitred edges. We were happy with that. I can't wait for the tiling to be done, we are going for an art deco style... No thread yet... However, as our site works have now started I might actually start one! Been very helpful and accommodating and nothing has been a problem. I'm just waiting on a construction liaison office to contact me, have been for the last 2 weeks. Been on the ready to start list for that time and now starting to get a tad ** off, been told they will be in contact with me by Friday and now been told that they will call me today.......we will see!! So looks like quite a few of us are up to the same stage Been told my house should be completed by July/August. If the slab is down by the end of this month. Cheers, Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 10Feb 10, 2010 5:20 pm Hi Karratha yes it looks like - I will check on your progress as I'm not far behind... I signed the preliminary works agreement late November - waiting for my contract sometime next week... estimate time to finish is early December.... fingers crossed. koolsville Thanks for the info - I might do the same with the tiles as I'm not in the mood to have them changed soon... so I better get them right. Where are you building guys? I'm in Kalamunda and we are going to have our old house demolished before we start.... My husband and I have only just recently signed the preliminary agreement with DA so will love to follow how all your builds go – hopefully smoothly! This will be our 2nd house but 1st build so if you have any words of wisdom, please send them my way!!! Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 12Feb 10, 2010 8:58 pm Hi Guys Looks like we're all within a few months of each other. We are off to The Maker kitchen display this weekend and are going to check out Crosby Tiles to see what's on offer there. I have to say that I can see this is where we are going to spend the most at pre-start. I'm hoping we are not going to blow the costs out too much more considering we have spent quite a bit on upgrades. We signed our contracts on Monday are are just waiting on the final variation/plans before re-submitting to council. I agree it's great to have stumbled on a thread dedicated to those of us that are building with DA. I look forward to following your builds but have to say that I am extremely envious of those of you who are further through the process than us. Good luck to all of you. I'm happy to see others building with DA as the only thread on this forum was pretty negative about them... want to see other experiences as we progress. It's exciting and mad in the same time :):) My plan is a Special one - my land is 33m wide x 27m long so I couldn't fit any standard house... so ended up with a combination of 2 - Nautilus x Falls Creek - with Frangipany front elevation... :):) go figure that... will post some details once I get the contract. jbarry - let us know how you go with the The Maker kitchen as I didn't get around to look at their place... let us know what they have on display or if you found it usefull. BTW I have a few ugrades to decide on - I'm thinking to upgrade the vanity benchtops to Cesar stone - did any of you did it? what cost am I looking at? I will definitelly go to the European ceramics this weekend to have a proper look as we went once before and got dizzy with the choices!!! So much to decide and visualise... We did our pre-start 24 November, final contracts last month, site scraped 2 weeks ago (we think? can't remember), plumbing on Tuesday, slab peg/outline/concrete borders (whatever that is called!) today, and expecting slab to be poured this week or next. CLO has told us that once the slab has been poured, the site supervisor will advise her of a completion date. Good luck with all of your builds, we'll be watching on! Oceanic with Nautilus upgrades. Handover 8 September 2010 Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 15Feb 10, 2010 11:08 pm No worries, hijack away Its good finding other ppl around the same stage as us also with Dale Alcock. Its my 3rd build but so far I have had a great experience with DA. Our sales rep was fantastic and has kept us informed every step of the way. We did pre start 2 weeks ago. Im normally pretty patient however this time around I am staying with family so cant wait for it all to start progressing thru construction. I ended up going with the upgraded tile board options on the wall at the selection centre. I was pretty happy with the cost to upgrade and use the borders in both bathrooms. Overall I was pretty happy with most of the prestart costings. Im building the Reflection but have adapted the Kensington elevation to suit our home. Bagheera - I didnt upgrade to the Caesar stone but saw on another forum someone was quoted $1000 for each side of a waterfall benchtop in a kitchen. But it would be worth it for a home you intend to spend many years in. I cant wait to hear more about everyones builds Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 16Feb 11, 2010 5:39 pm Gizmo19 Bagheera - I didnt upgrade to the Caesar stone but saw on another forum someone was quoted $1000 for each side of a waterfall benchtop in a kitchen. But it would be worth it for a home you intend to spend many years in. Yeah stone is pretty pricey!, cost me $6,500 to do my Kitchen (Bench and Island) and Glass splash backs aren't cheap either $3,500 but worth it hopefully! I must post some plans of my house up! Once the slab gets down might eventually start a thread. Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 17Feb 11, 2010 5:57 pm We're considering a slightly modified Ambrose. It's a demolition and rebuild in Greenwood. Just trying to work out what to do with a void that's appeared behind the fridge space, as a result of making the pantry (next to the fridge) a walk in. Maybe a cupboard for coats/ hats/ umbrellas and handbags? Just leave it as an enclosed void that I'll never see nor care about once we move in? Getting the kitchen right is doing my head in. More details to come when we sign up and eventually start our own thread. Re: Anyone building with Dale Alcock or recently built 18Feb 11, 2010 6:14 pm Hi Guys - Good to hear I have more company here now! Read/Follow my blog to find out more about our build - but so far has been good (apart from slower then expected brickwork - hoping they will take steps to 'catch-up'). We are building the Nautilus with Lakeview Elevation. Gizmo - curious to know how much the upgraded tiles (from the 8 or so premium tile boards?) cost? We chose to do our tiles separately - our upgrade cost was around $2500. I can see that you're so far ahead of us.... so envious... I can recognise the Nautilus layout from the photos as I'm using part of the Nautilus in my plan. Loved the Nautilus and especially the WIR from the Master........... loved that sitting thingy and the backlit mirror at the end and the wallpaper. Unfortunatelly we could not fit the standard Nautilus on our land... Wasn't that sitting thingy nice. I asked how much they will charge to have it done and they quoted me almost $7K for it - just imagine what I said.... How are you doing your WIR? What about those 2 shelves in the entry hall - quite liked them. I'm having my entry hall very similar a bit longer then Nautilus but have the space for the shelves - deciced that we will do them ourselves as they quoted us again over $3K without the lighting.... can't wait to see how it develops - keep uploading those photos... I totally understand your dramas with the kitchen, we want to change to a walk-in-pantry too. Are you having the wall-oven stack, or do you have to change to underbench oven? Not sure if the oven is too much in the walkway to the laundry, but don't fancy the idea of an underbench oven either - it's all too hard!!! Really want to make the kitchen perfect, because nothing's worse than a dysfunctional kitchen... https://form.jotform.com/240284569218058 Please spare a moment to fill out this survey form for a project.
