Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 07, 2010 10:01 pm Hi everyone, I have been reading these forums for months now as i am building my first home.....Firstly, thanks for everyones ideas and knowledge so far. Im 20 years old and in 3 weeks my house should be finished, Just thought i would share the progress so far and see what peoples opinions are so far. I would of done it sooner but i work a lot and haven't had the time to start a thread....better late than never So far the builders have been great! No major issues at all and even the minor ones have been sorted with no effort on my part and the quality of the build is amazing. Its a 3x2 with a study. Please let me know what you think. Yes they are provincial calais....pictures do not do them justice and they always look so different in certain lighting conditions. Re: My first home - Lots of pictures 4Feb 07, 2010 10:16 pm We are building with Provincial Avignon bricks, just like yours but lighter. They are fairly new and we have not seen them on any houses yet, so looking at yours, gives us a good idea of the texture they have. I like the smooth finish they have. Also, you internal doors are a nice feature. Re: My first home - Lots of pictures 5Feb 07, 2010 10:20 pm I'll have to admit I dont' think I've ever seen a house go up so quickly here on HomeOne before..lol. Your front door is quite a nice feature too and look forward to seeing the final pictures. Happy moving in day. I stood there for 10 mins tonight staring at the splashback hehehehe. Im building in Southern River and my builder is Metro Strata....A subdivision of Highbury Homes i think. They have been sooo good. I've seen some Metro Strata plans before, they've always seemed very nice and functional to me Which one are you building? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Low maintenance Im building the Calisto 3x2 with study, but my plans have been heavily modified as i wanted side access to the house and i also have a huge aquarium being put in as a room divider (i do aquariums for a living). Re: My first home - Lots of pictures 11Feb 08, 2010 8:41 am Hi krissytool - your house is looking absolutely gorgeous. Glad to hear you've had such a good run with your builders! Also, I'm very impressed that you're building your home at 20 years old! Oh that I were that savvy and organised when I was in my 20s! I like the point that most of the rooms have windows, including the bathroom, WC ( but seems ensuite can't ). Would u mind posting the original floorplan and u're modified ones? Most of us will be interested to see how u've changed things around. The aquarium must be the focus! WOW factor! Also, ur block doesn't look small as what u've stated. What magic have u made to the land? U must be v proud to own ur own house at 20'. for ur hard work. Keep on some pics after moving in and let us see the aquarium please. Re: My first home - Lots of pictures 14Feb 21, 2010 10:09 am I also love the kitchen splashback, one of my favourite colours that i will be using in furnishings throughout my house.. I'm amazed that you are only 20...and are on the property ladder so young...CONGRATULATIONS..something i will be urging my own children to do...knowing how hard it is once you have other committments/children etc... Keep the pictures coming... Cheers Brigette Re: My first home - Lots of pictures 15Feb 21, 2010 11:08 am wow, the colour selections are fantastic, they really give the home some spunk - well done!!! I'm looking at getting strandwoven bamboo in a very similar colour. Yes im only 20, I have had to make a lot of sacrifices, miss a lot of party's, miss a lot of concerts and work a lot of hours but at the end of the day this seems like its worth a lot more than all of those things combined.....Its hard turning things down, but sooooo worth it! I will put some floor plan pics up soon, im without a scanner at the moment. The original floorplan had boundry walls on both sides, this meant there was no side access.....So we made the house narrower and longer, utilising all of the space! And i still have a small backyard. Re: My first home - Lots of pictures 19Feb 24, 2010 4:31 pm I'm going to have to say it again... That splashback!! I love it I remember buying my first home when i was 20, it was such a great feeling!! And i can sympathise with you on all the sacrifices too. But its SO worth it I can't wait to see this fish tank dividing wall!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: My first home - Lots of pictures 20Feb 24, 2010 4:54 pm Hi Krissytool The house is looking fanstastic - good on you for getting in the game so early on. You really will never look back. Sacrifices now for huge future gains. I lOVE that splashback. Can I ask - did you get your tiles from Crosby. I see in one of your photos there are some Southern Cross Ceramics boxes there - these are the same brach of glass tiles we are going to look at for our splashback. Would you mind me asking how much your splashback cost you? The colour is awesome. Love your selections for the bathroom too.'
