Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 07, 2010 9:34 pm Hi guys, can you please give your info about how much to upgrade the door height? I am going to raise ceiling height to 2740mm, so may increase door height accordingly. However, Henley gave me their price $134 per door, which I think it's not that reasonable. I browsed the website of their door supplier: http://www.corinthian.com.au/ and found the difference (flush panel) is only $43: 1. 2040*820*35 $49.50 2. 2340*820*35 $92.40 I can't believe the labor fee for such a easy upgrade costs $91. Re: Anyone knows how much to upgrade door height to 2340mm? 3Feb 07, 2010 10:35 pm Yep without checking our contract which I'll do if you wish, it cost us around $107 or $127 per door. Like alexjohn said, you have to take into account you builder will have every cent accounted for, including how much extra paint and time it takes to hang a new door of this height. Plus the usual 25 - 33% mark up for profit, but you'll have to admit the taller doors gives your house such an impact it's worth the extra cost. It IS more than they need to charge, but they are builders and as such required to charge like a wounded bull. Apparently. I'd have no idea if it is a reasonable amount. Our doors are all 2340 as standard with our builder - one of the reasons that we chose to build with them. I'd say it is worth it. It's one of those things that you really couldn't do at a reasonable cost at a later date, and well worth it for more than aesthetic purposes. It is also good for heating/cooling your home as far as letting warm air in or out of rooms (coupled with a few well placed ceiling fans and you're on your way to being able to claim some sort of sustainability cred for using less fossil fuels for climate control!! Add in some cross ventillation or a heat chimney and you'll have most of your summer cooling problems solved . Re: Anyone knows how much to upgrade door height to 2340mm? 6Feb 08, 2010 12:36 am Our 8' doors all have 3 hinges. I think 7' doors usually have 2. If that's correct, it's an extra labour and material cost contributing to the extra. Either way, I reckon it's a cheap upgrade and well worth it. Cheers zeke Re: Anyone knows how much to upgrade door height to 2340mm? 7Feb 08, 2010 6:36 am We have the taller doors and I love the look - I've just discovered one teensy problem though - over-door storage hooks don't work, because I'm too short to use them. Can't help with price - ours were part of a promo and we got the whole house for only $173. Re: Anyone knows how much to upgrade door height to 2340mm? 8Feb 08, 2010 11:49 am I guess its also because they have you over a barrel. Its also the door frame that needs work and it will cost you alot more to get this done after handover. Does seem excessive but - as I am learning - Welcome to building your dream home, where everything costs more than it should Re: Anyone knows how much to upgrade door height to 2340mm? 9Feb 08, 2010 12:14 pm We were told around the $110 mark per door when we were looking at them. It was one of the reasons why only upgraded to 8.5' ceilings rather than 9', by the time the extra cost between and the additional cost to increase all the door heights it became prohibitvely expensive for our budget. Also consider if you have any non-standard doors cavity sliding, or glass inset etc they increase in price even more. My parents have it in theirs and looks fine. We're also not getting brick infill over all the outside windows, just couldn't afford it. I think it will still look good. If you raise the door height wouldn't you have to raise the windows too? To disguise the window heights you just hang your curtain rods etc higher up the wall, can look really effective. Re: Anyone knows how much to upgrade door height to 2340mm? 11Feb 08, 2010 1:10 pm Thanks everyone. I did leave the extra hinge (which I should check with the builder) and frame when considering the difference. But I learnt from another post that big M only charges $65 per door. It seems I should bargain with the sales person to get a good price. In fact, I have a few non-standard variations as well. But the sales person didn't want to give me the quotation until I come to the tender. How can I bargain the price with her? Or I need to deal with the admin later on (I haven't decided to go with Henley, so I don't have admin at this point)? Re: Anyone knows how much to upgrade door height to 2340mm? 13Feb 09, 2010 11:08 am We paid $521 to increase from 2040x820mm to 2040x920mm Rather expensive. We were told the height would increase to 2107mm also but that was bollocks and we now have to pay that amount purely for the extra 10mm width. Look at the pillar doors they are huge and fab! Are you going to increase width of internal doors? What's the point doing that? If $521 is per door price, I should say it's not worth.... i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 15994 Unless the room is for storage then it's non compliant BCA V2 2019 S3 P3.8 You have 2 options 1.
