We are just starting to build (through a builder) and the footpath has existing damage in various places. Our builder has told us that we need to report this to council otherwise we will be liable for the repairs once construction is completed (fair enough). But apparently to report this we have to apply (and pay for) an assest protection application. Does anyone know what this is? Am I being given the right information? Thanks. Re: Asset Protection from Council 3Feb 07, 2010 10:05 pm Each council is different - you may have to pay for 'asset protection insurance' which means you are covered if any council assets are damaged during the work. Usually this requires a bond of some sort (around $1000) which you will get back if nothing is damaged - the council sends someone out to inspect council assets (footpath, crossovers etc) and makes a report of the condition of the assets prior to the commencement of works then when you are all finished they will come back and check them again for any new damage. In our case (we are demolishing and rebuilding) our council doesn't offer the insurance so we didn't have to pay a bond. We did however have to pay $135 for an asset inspection and report. Again, when we are finished we have to contact council for a final inspection and if anything is damaged we have to cover it.
