Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 05, 2010 2:19 pm I wanted to start something here about building our first home after having read some very useful posts on this forum. So a quick thankyou for all the wonderful information, and a special thanks to Locus considering its the same building company. We have been looking at building a home for about a year and are now in a position to make it a reality. There is a great deal of excitement about meeting with a rep to look over a pre-contract quote (our 3rd, they have been very patient with us). There are a fair few bits we want added and changed but hopefuly it's still within the realms of reason - we think it is. After looking at quite a few homes we are still hooked on The Sovereign. While we are happy with the structure in all cases, here are some of the changes/additions we are looking at -high celilings in living areas -granite kitchen bench (although Avonite has been suggested?) -nice big bath in ensute -outside gas bayonet for bbq -sliding doors to all robes and linnen cupdoards -alfresco door to alfresco area -manual roller door at rear of garage Theres a couple of other little bits that are likely not as interesting, but those are really the main ones we are interested in. We will be meeting on Tuesday to take a look at a quote and hopefuly get the ball rolling. It will be nice to see our patch of dirt become useful for more than a shortcut for other people's cars. New beginnings. Re: K&C First Home (SPH) 4Feb 09, 2010 3:14 pm Rex Welcome We were up in Wanneroo last weekend looking through a SPH Soverign display home and it was wonderful. Your list of additions are spot-on also. Good luck! Thanks very much Rex. We fell in love with the place as soon as we walked in the door, even before really seeing all the rooms. Just felt right. A few hours to go and we will be sitting down with a SHP rep to discuss a couple more things and hopefuly be able to get it happening in a couple of weeks. The only other major thing we want to do is take out all the standard lighting and put in some LED lighting throughout. Chances are going through the builder to install those will be costly so we are looking at having them put in after - however, worth asking all the same. We're getting downlights and at prestart we told them not to put lights in the main living areas and theatre, but just put a junction box in up there. Save having to patch the hole later I would consider CFL before LED's also. Re: K&C First Home (SPH) 8Feb 09, 2010 6:20 pm Ah so that can be sorted out at prestart, nice. CFLs certainly are a much cheaper option to go with. Just had a call to confirm our meeting and that pricing may be a little higher than we expected, so likely no LEDs for now Building The Sovereign In Canning Vale With Scott Park Homes Re: K&C First Home (SPH) 9Feb 09, 2010 6:24 pm Hi Moreannen and welcome to H1! You're in good hands with SPH, they'll take care of you. Once that is through we are ready to get started. Since we started looking at building the Sovereign, about 2 years ago, we have had a fair bit of time to look at options such as colours for various thing. Still stuck on a couple of bits but shouldnt take too long to figure out what we like. Just a matter of visiting a couple of stores for a look. Should be able to post some more interesting stuff pretty soon. K and I just got back from a shopping trip for a photo album in preperation. Yea we owned our land too, had already been titled when we bought but still we had the 6 month wait... & then some!!!! We were told 12 weeks wait time just for the final drawings so that might be what they meant for that time frame. On the other hand maybe things have eased off a little for SPH & they are moving a little faster now, no harm in hoping!! So here goes with some of our internal selections. Sorry I dont have pictures for the tiles, but will try to describe them. They are all from European Ceramics. Kitchen - Cupboards: Red Cherry (Natural Finish) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Benchtop: Cypress Granite Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Splashback Tile: Sergio Flax or Enviro Flint Its either a moderate grey or almost a black, still trying to decide between them Ensuite - Cupboards: Dansk Maple (Natural Finish) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Benchtop: Lunar Stone (Gloss Finish) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Floor Tile: Enviro Plus Sandback A bit like it sounds really, a yellowy brown kind of sand look, but not quite too brown to wonder where it really came from if you know what I mean. - Wall Tile: Pavillion White Noce Gloss White tiles, the border incorporates the colours of benchtop, cupboards and floor as squares in the top half of the tile with an embossed reed laying horizontaly across it. Bathroom & Powder Room - Cupboards: Pearl Grey (Natural Finish) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Benchtop: Andalucian Marble (Gloss Finish) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Floor Tile: Mediterranean Eggplant What to say... its the same colour as a lighter shade purple eggplant, not the usual dark shaded ones seen at the shop. - Wall Tile: White Season Plum Frieze White tiles. Border is slanted squares in the top half of the tile incorporating grey, the same eggplant shade, and some small shapes which look a bit like squares and leaves Laundry... - Cupboards: Alaskan (Natural Finish) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Benchtop: Tuscan Granite (Velour Finish) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ - Floor Tile: Slik Ice The kind of blue-green tint you would see on an older part of a glacier... maybe an older glacier at that - Wall Tile: Glacier Cashmere Whi-Aqua Frieze White tile. The top half of the border tile has horizontal strips of the slick ice colour with a thick band of off-white. Each colour strip has a thin black line running through them to jazz it up a little. The colours used are pretty close to the colours in the benchtop. Building The Sovereign In Canning Vale With Scott Park Homes Re: K&C First Home (SPH) 20May 10, 2010 7:55 pm Soil testing today.
