Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 05, 2010 7:34 am Hi All, My house has been bricked up for around a month and a half and I have just noticed (now that the scaffolds are all out) that the mortar isn't really off-white as we requested in our building contract. There has been some downpour in Sydney for the last couple of days and was wondering if this can affect the colour of the mortar? or did the brickies mix it all wrong ? (i know that they were using off-white cement mix..) Any thoughts? I do remember it was mixed with white sand (as Miss 5 at the time used it as a big sand pit) Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Mortar Question - Is this Offwhite ? 4Feb 05, 2010 2:40 pm Hi As others have said it can be hard to tell from the photos, I have off white mortar but my bricks are also lighter (photos on blog) which may make the mortar look lighter. Re: Mortar Question - Is this Offwhite ? 5Feb 05, 2010 3:09 pm I was under the impression that light cement + white sand = true white. I have off white and it's light cement + yellow sand. With mine it looked darker at first, it gets whiter as the moisture dries out of it. The mortar in that pic isn't that clear but it does look like off white. If it were grey, it'd be a pretty obvious grey. Re: Mortar Question - Is this Offwhite ? 6Feb 05, 2010 4:54 pm Thanks guys. I will wait and see how the bricks turn up after they are cleaned.
