Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 04, 2010 9:40 am We have just signed up with Cl*rendon homes, and are now on the hunt for bricks, tiles, etc before our colour appointment in a weeks time. I really need some honest opinions about brick and colour choices that I am considering. I normally have a pretty conservative (and safe) approach when it comes to colours, however I came across Boral's Blue Rio bricks and something really drew me to them. They are very far away from my normal style so I am freaking a bit. SO, I have been busy trying to work out a colour combination that will go with them, and this is what I have come up with: • Boral Blue Rio bricks • Surfmist gutters, fascia and garage door • White weatherboard cladding • Bristile gunmetal rooftile • Dulux gentle calm quarter – render I have attached a bit of Studio M and photoshopping maddness that I put together (I tried to find the facade that was the closest to ours, and then I added an extra bit of overhang roof to the front, etc) to give you an idea of what I am thinking of. PLEASE, honest opinions are fully encouraged, don't be afraid to hurt my feeling if you think it is yuck Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 3Feb 07, 2010 8:45 pm Hi Just to let you know we have used blue rio bricks, combined with render. They are beautiful bricks that are a blend of browns and greyish blue with off white mortar and look fantastic . We have metallic grey windows and surfmist roof. Looks fantastic, even if I say so . Very modern yet classic colours. Good luck! Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 4Feb 07, 2010 10:04 pm I think surfmist roof would look awesome and the render colour would really set off the brick more if it were purple, preferrably medium to dark purple. It would also compliment the front door colour and garage! Building in Promenade Estate, Doreen Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 5Feb 07, 2010 10:13 pm Like you we too are very conservative in our approach to house colours, but if it comes out looking anything like the pic you posted it should look very nice.. HELP! 6Feb 09, 2010 12:46 pm Thanks guys, it's just such a hard choice! Poochie we had also thought maybe a colourbond roof would suit best, but it all depends on how much extra that will cost... our budget keeps getting bigger and bigger each day Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 7Feb 09, 2010 1:26 pm The roof colour you picked is good! Don't worry about colourbond if it blows the budget. Try working the render colour to purple on studio m to see if you like it! I wish I could have your bricks but I ended up with Austral homestead tan (which I now love) and doing the purple front door!! Building in Promenade Estate, Doreen Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 9Feb 09, 2010 7:39 pm Love the Boral Blue Rio!! It's what we've chosen to use as well. We are just waiting for our site start, should be in the next couple of weeks. Boral Blue Rio bricks Surfmist fascia and garage door Loft gutters White window frames Boral Driftwood roof tiles So we've gone for the light colour roof tile to match the garage door and front door. Although the dark roof looks fab too. Can't wait to see what sort of batch of bricks we get! There is definately something 'about' the bricks that i love.. I am still keen to go for these bricks, but my husband is wimping out on me He is afraid that the bricks will date very quickly. My point is is that 99% of bricks date eventually! You look at any house and you can generally tell what era it was built in - why is that such a bad thing?? He is pushing for brown bricks (which I like as well), but I wanted something a bit different. Mind you, I can usually get me own way, so this decision is far from over Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 11Feb 12, 2010 7:17 am I don't think the bricks will necessarily date more than others. I really think the only classic brick colour is Red. All the light brick houses have been built in the 90's-00's. The fully rendered houses are from the 00-10's I think each look 'dates' as you said.. but I don't see a lot of Boral Blue Rio around, so difficult to say that it would look like it's from a particular era? I reckon just go for whatever you like, blue brown or magenta! I know I'm going to love driving into my drive and seeing those beautiful bricks . Love Kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. What's the next project??? Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 12Feb 12, 2010 9:59 am Housemouse- we are also seriously considering this brick. My DH and I both love it, but because it hasn't been used alot it is hard to picture what it will look like!! We also plan on using Surfmist or something a bit darker (I think it is Dune) for the garage door and gutters. Originally I wanted light roof too but am worried it will be too much contrast with the dark brick. I am with you though- it is very different and am thinkinng maybe we should stick to a safer dark brown option like Chocolatto or something- (funny we both have similar tastes!) dunno Hi Just to let you know we have used blue rio bricks, combined with render. HELP! 14Feb 12, 2010 1:07 pm Here are a couple of pics that I took when we were making our decision. The first few are from our builders display home. The next couple are from a house I saw on the street (you can call Boral and they will tell you of any houses in your area that have used the brick of your choice) And the last one was at our brick selection centre. I am starting to wonder whether Blue Rio is better as a feature brick rather than as a brick to use over the whole house? Does anyone have any photos of it being used across the whole house? Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... HELP! 16Feb 18, 2010 12:10 pm Housemouse- I don't think it is limited to being a feature brick- I think it could be a bit much without any render though, I think it needs something to break it up a bit. But the way you have it with the 2 rendered pillars looks good. I too am struggling with brick choice atm. W have an appointment next week and I keep going back and forward between these bricks or just a plainer dark brick like I mentioned in my previous post. I have done up some facades on the StudioM website also but can't work out how to link them in here Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Boral Blue Rio bricks... Does that mean I have to print it out, scan it and then upload to photobucket?? It would be so much easier if I could post the link to the drawing on StudioM but I don't think that will work.
