Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 04, 2010 9:25 am Hi all, I'm in the process of building in South Sydney, and after initial excavation one of the side fence footings has been exposed, causing that part of the fence to sag a little. I've been trying to get some quotes on retaining walls but have recently heard mention of something called reinforced shotcrete which is quicker and cheaper than retaining walls? Has anyone else tried this? I'd like to know how happy you were with the end product. I'm not too fussed about it being 'uglier' than a retaining wall. rivercup Re: Shotcrete vs retaining wall 2Feb 04, 2010 9:34 am Shotcrete is pneumatically applied (pressure sprayed) concrete onto a surface which has reinforcement - it's used extensively in commercial construction. I think it's also used in pool construction (but maybe not so much anymore... )...skate parks... I think for a small quantity it would prove too expensive because of the set up costs. You're probably better off on the retaining wall path for domestic applications. Rendered it would look like a normal rendered concrete/brick wall. You need to correct the damage your excavation as caused first...any photos? mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Shotcrete vs retaining wall 3Feb 04, 2010 9:35 am TDL you beat me by . . that much Hmmm cheaper, possibly... Just need to remove part of the fence rebuild the footing and replace the fence. Shot will cost more than the footing just in setup like TDL said.
