Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 03, 2010 7:08 pm Ive probably jumped the gun in starting my own thread - but am way too excited
Some background first: ~My DH is a commercial and industrial builder (we have had our business for over 15 years) so it makes sense for us to do owner/builder. ~We bought our 830sqm block in 2006. ~Its taken 2 years of planning and prompting to get DH into gear. ~The deal was I told him what I wanted - DH gets to say how it looks/plans. ~DH gets to pick the exteriors. ~I get to pick the interiors ~DH gets to have 80sqm shed/toy - for all his engine art ~Kids and I get to have a pool. ~DH wants low maintenance backyard ~I get landscaped front gardens. Where we are at; ~DH wants limestone brick, red brick pointing around windows, white colourbond roof for exterior - because of size of shed it must match. ~Ground floor is all polished concrete (white sand, white cement, white agg, with a few darker agg thrown in) its hiperfloor and its absolutely gorgeous! it is in every room bar lounge/rumpus and guest ensuite. Throws off not a cool hue as you would expect but a warm one instead. (pic incoming!) ~Polished concrete extends 2.5m outside of bifolds - so we can bring the outside in. ~Upstairs is all coffee coloured bamboo excl ensuites ~Tile selections for all baths are done (pics incoming!) as well as laundry. ~Kitchen layout is a bit of a mess I think and would love input here. I'm thinking of putting in an interior wall - making a walk in pantry and getting rid of the island bench all together. ~Doors are not shown in lounge/rumpus because of ventilation. ~All passages must be at least 1m wide (as my Dad is disabled and in a wheelchair - my folks quite often stay with us as they travel around Aust). ~Need ideas on placement of downstairs guest bath as this will be a wet area (no shower hub) again so my Dad can use. ~Storage under stairs is not shown - this will be media storage. Harrisdale backyard finally done! Re: Ronnies C'Vale (WA) Build. 3Feb 03, 2010 7:27 pm Hi Miss Petepie, We are hoping for the middle to end of March *fingers crossed* for council approval. Im hoping my DH will be on their case day by day. As we have our own business we have all our tradies lined up ready to go, its just fitting them in around our business developments. My DH is estimating an 8 month build but if not Im hoping for at least Christmas. Working drawings are done - but am taking till end of the week to see if I want to make any changes - especially with the danged kitchen (I just cant visualize it you know?) there is a window there that is bugging me and am considering taking it out as we have the bifolds across the back area and the wall on the right hand side is glass so there is plenty of light. Master Bedroom is big - DH's request I asked him if he had a complex but no response as yet Re: Ronnies C'Vale (WA) Build. 4Feb 04, 2010 1:13 pm Ok Im so very excited - I didnt realize that my DH had already completed engineering drawings and the plans were submitted last week! so now just waiting on pesky council approval (I hope they move their bottoms!) ~On a side note - Darn it! still worried about the kitchen window however Re: Our CVale Build - Plans submitted *happy dance* 5Feb 04, 2010 1:23 pm Fantastic looking plan mckelvie!! Very spacious and open - especially like how everyone gets their own bathroom I must admit to having strange feelings about your kitchen also Maybe keep the window, but get rid of the middle bench and just have a line of cupboards across that wall where the window was? Can't wait to see your colour selections! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Can't wait to see your colour selections! I think that is it Jodie get rid of the island bench! and I would be much happier. U Shaped kitchen it is I guess - however thats not really doing much for me either I really like contemporary kitchens and that island bench doesnt suit at all. Im still considering adding another internal wall and having a big enough walk in pantry that will store my appliances too hence getting rid of some of the cupboards I might need.. Mmmm decisions, decisions. Colour selections are done for all baths and laundry - just have to figure out how to load them up with my DD's camera to PC lol Re: Our CVale Build - Plans submitted *happy dance* 7Feb 04, 2010 2:29 pm Hi McKelvie Congratulations - how very exciting. I too have had a look at your kitchen. I think perhaps I would be inclined to get rid of the middle island bench. You have lots of space down the side of your kitchen - where that window is. This would allow for your extra bench space, cook top, underbench oven but also give you all that space for overhead cupboards and wide drawers or cupboards either side of the oven. You could still have some windows - like in the pics I've added below, otherwise no window but a fantastic splashback. I would also increase the depth of the breakfast bar not only giving you extra work space but creating a communal informal gathering point in which to have friends chat with you if you are entertaining and happen to be working away in the kitchen. Just a suggestion but this idea might be something to consider. This is from one of the DA displays we walked through - I loved how they positioned the windows above the bench but below the overheads: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Keep us posted on what you decide. Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 4599 |
