Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 02, 2010 12:28 pm We've just had construction start on our new house. I know a few people are building this house here so will post updates when I can.
Just a quick question. We were told that we would have a site start in January from our sales administrator. When we hadn't heard anything, I contacted her to be informed that they'd already started. It's now been 2 weeks since they started and we haven't had any contact from our Contract administrator or SS. Is this usual? I thought that the administrator would have at least been in contact to introduce herself. I only found out her details from our Sales administrator. I would have thought they would have at least had the decency to let you know! We're building the Monterey with Henley also, we won't be starting until October (waiting for our land). Looking forward to watching your progress! Building Henley Monterey Q3 at Somerfield, Keysborough. Unfortunately my experience with admins is pretty average. I wish we could just deal direct with our SS...which is what we try to do, but to get to him, we still have to go through or admin Your SS should have called you by now to have introduced himself. He will generally spend one day in the office per week, and on this day your admin should be emailing you progress updates. Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley 5Feb 02, 2010 6:02 pm I could count on one hand the number of times we have been phoned by an admin . We are nearly at Handover, our build started 6 months ago. Our admin pretty much changed with each phone call as well. We did get a message last week telling us that "as the house has reached completion we would no longer be getting weekly updates". That was good for a laugh. Apart from being annoying, the lack of phone calls hasn't really been that big of an issue. If they have not called to let you know about site start, its time you call them. Phone the reception desk and ask to be put through to your admin. The receptionist will work out who your admin is. Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley 6Feb 02, 2010 7:02 pm We got a call from our admin about 2 weeks before they started and we were told we would get a call from our SS so that he could introduce himself - we already had half a frame up by the time he rang us. Since then - we've had no weekly updates or phones calls. But I have to admit that we're not really concerned just yet about lack of contact....only the lack of the 'We will start building on dd mmm yyyy' letter. Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley 7Feb 02, 2010 7:58 pm I like the Monterey. It was my favourite of Henley's single story houses and I would of built that if we went through them I'll second that, it was one of our shortlisted plans, but our short frontage meant it went on the discard pile. Looking forward to seeing it come together for you. She did call back but I missed her. She then sent me a generic email congratulating us on our site start (which was 2 weeks ago)! I finally received an update late today. Apparently our slab has been poured and they'll be starting the frame stage tomorrow weather permitting. Still no contact from our SS though. Anyway, we'll have to check it out on the weekend. Here are our plans with the changes we made. Some things we did was; -Grand Master Suite Option -Grand Alfresco Option -Upgrade to Ducted refrigerated air con -Swapped the laundry & living area around -Doors to the living area, kitchen to back hallway & ensuite -We widened the BIR's in BR 2&4 to 2 metres -Added sliding doors to all BIR's and increased the height of the doors in all BR's to 2.34 metres -Soundproofed a number of rooms Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley 12Feb 04, 2010 9:31 pm I like what you've done with it - that'll be one fine looking bedroom (master) when it's all done - how big is it in the grand size? Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley 13Feb 04, 2010 10:00 pm Twiggy I like what you've done with it - that'll be one fine looking bedroom (master) when it's all done - how big is it in the grand size? Good call on the Living/laundry swap too Thanks. The Master suite is 4 x 5 metres. It's going to be great having all that room. We also changed the windows in the Casual area. Originally the back window was in the centre of the wall. We changed it to two 1.8 metre x .9 metre windows. This means we can place the the tv against the back wall which will allow us to open the whole meals/casual/alfresco area up with the stacking doors. Looking forward to throwing a nice welcome party! Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley Update 06/02 14Feb 06, 2010 6:28 pm So we chacked out the progress of our build today and took some pics of the slab. Funny, on Friday I got 2 letters from henley. One was to conratulate us on the start of our build and the other was an invoice. Oh well, as long as they keep moving along at this pace. Here are some pics This is my wife imagining she is ****** in our bedroom Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thought it was strange that there is no temp fencing at the back of the property. We plan to lay timber flooring and I don't want any problems. I'd appreciate other people's views, especially those already gone past slab stage Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley Is This slab Acceptable? 17Feb 08, 2010 11:44 pm Looks ok to me. We've been told that slabs are good at compacting but stretching. It's normal to have some cracking and that it's only a problem if you can see the steel mesh or looks large enough you can fit a coin in (side way). Feel free to jump up and down a bit and they might fill the gap at least, to make it look better. I would keep an eye on it for the moment. Re: Building Monterey Q2 with Henley Is This slab Acceptable? 18Feb 14, 2010 6:11 pm Went down to our block on the weekend and even with a bit of inclement weather last week the frame is up. 3 weeks in and they're flying along. All seems good, but I'm no expert. A mate of mine lives around the corner and his neighbour is a building inspector so am going to sling him a couple of slabs to check out the house.
