Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 01, 2010 2:04 pm Hi all. I ask this question as we are going through a soon to be 2 year nightmare with this company. Every thing from the day we signed up has been delayed and taken more than twice as long as they originally said it would, not to mention all the mistakes and lost documents. All of our neighbouring houses have either been finished, or are crawling with tradesmen week after week. We are lucky if we see progress after 4 weeks of nothing. After waiting for 7 weeks we got some minor work done but have just been informed that it may take a couple of weeks to get some major work done. Currently waiting for tiler, and second fixing to be completed which started back in October. A tradie on a neighbouring job asked me how things were going and said that our builder is a bunch of f@#$ wits. Good to hear. We are now at about week 46 of construction, and have about 8 weeks to go if all goes well. So going on their previous history, that's about 16 week 'till handover! We have been closely watching as many jobs of theirs as we can find, and have found 4 houses, just in our area, that are roughly in the same time frame as ours, so we are not alone. I have read some posts on here of people who are having some trouble with them, and was wondering if anyone has had any luck in getting their builder to hurry up. We are throwing away massive amounts of money each week in rent, interest and storage while we wait for the keys. At this rate we will be broke before we reach that stage. Ours have been mainly to do with attitude, passing the buck, refusal to commit to anything, refusal to fix things that have gone wrong (or claiming that it will be done, then not doing it), etc. Mostly, attitude. Touch wood, we're past the worst of it... The attitude seems to have improved since an email that I sent to the commercial manager (with photographic proof to back it up), so we're hoping that it stays where it currently is. There's no friendliness there, but at least he's been strangely informative and started having issues fixed as we've brought them to attention. Hopefully he realises that we won't just sit back and put up with inappropriate behaviours or workmanship! I still couldn't recommend them to anybody. Given the treatment that we have received, I doubt I'll even tell people who built our house once the signs come down after handover! Re: Is Longridge Homes Adelaides slowest builder?? 4Feb 02, 2010 5:49 pm What is up with that attitude? Everything is such a hassle for this lot. You can't even point out mistakes with out getting your head bitten off. We would have been better off spending a little more and going with a better builder. Your house is coming along very nicely by the way! Wish we were as exited as you, but this build is just wearing us down. Re: Is Longridge Homes Adelaides slowest builder?? 5Feb 03, 2010 12:06 am I understand the bit about wearing you down... We were only about a month into this build when I told my husband that I didn't think I could live in the house without feeling bitter about our dealings with them. And the tone of voice used when biting your head off... Urgh... Do you find the SS to be extremely whiney and generally unbearable? The man does "insolent child" better than my 7yo nephew... It would be sad if it wasn't my house that they were playing with... But the fact that it is makes it SOOOO frustrating and really quite upsetting at times... I'd feel pity if I wasn't too busy trying to protect my own interests - so instead my pity is with anyone else who is travelling this path. Where are you building? Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20410 Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74701 |
