Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 09, 2008 2:26 pm Hi everyone,
My wife Jackie and I are building our first home, an Illour 30 with Porter Davis. We currently live in Canberra, going on 4 years now, and decided to make the move back home to Melbourne to be back with friends and family. When we started looking for land the Hawkstowe estate (near Mernda) caught our eye because 2 years ago we were married and held our reception just up the road at the Whitehaven reception center and actually had our wedding photos taken at Hawkstowe park! Maybe it was meant to be!? Things are moving fast, perhaps too fast, our land registered the day we got unconditional approval on finance so we have to fire a rocket up the bank to get the money sorted before 14days past. But thats in their hands now, eeek, *fingers crossed*. Now just a few little things to tidy off, selling current house, getting a new job for myself, moving to temporary accomodation in Melbourne, moving our belongings into storage, getting my wife a new job and moving her down to Melbourne and finally choosing all the upgrades/extras for the new house! When you write it down it sounds so easy I've already been pinging the forum for bits and pieces, I'll add threads as I create them in relation to specific areas of the build. We are building in Mernda too, Mernda Villages so a few mins up the road from Hawkstowe. I love the Illoura, great plan (apart from the bathroom/toilet not having a window) and was our choice in a 36sq until we bought a block of land that had to have a double storey house on it. So we are now building the Cremorne 41. I think there are a few blogs at the moment of future Hawkstowe Residents.
https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=1522 Good luck with the move, hope everything falls into place, must help knowing that you two will have a brand new house soon. We've had a few big moves, Brisbane-Melb, Melb-UK and then back to Melb so I know how much work goes into it. Well it's work moving anywhere really even to the next suburb!! We'll be heading north hopefully in the next 7-8 months from Vermont. Can't wait! Good luck. Toni Happy at Home Re: Building a PD Illoura 7Jun 09, 2008 3:58 pm Yeah we'll get a blog, for the short term I think we'll just keep this thread up-to-date and use it for questions. When we get some more pics, perhaps on the next trip down, we'll get some blogging happening. Re: Building a PD Illoura 9Jun 09, 2008 8:51 pm Welcome to the forum, we built a Porter Davis home in Woodland Waters, right near you too. Hawkestowe is a nice estate. Hope everything goes well with the move back to Melbs and building. Re: Building a PD Illoura 14Jun 13, 2008 7:59 am Thanks guys, well my first update and its not really a good one, could be worse I suppose, here goes..
As I mentioned we were a little surprised that the land registered as quickly as it had so we were behind from the get go and were working with the bank to get things ready in time, it seems that we express posted the contract back to the bank for no reason because it hit their in box and sat there for the next 5 days. Now when we heard this thing went nuclear and it was looking like we were going to get stung with the ~$100 a day fee for delaying settlement. But in a stroke of luck out solicitor got a call yesterday from the landholder and they had to call off settlement, rescheduled for next week. What a lucky get out of jail, still not happy with ANZ but with a little luck we wont get stung for their screw up now. Re: Building a PD Illoura 15Jun 19, 2008 11:55 am Ready, FIRE, Aim! or so it seems..
We are due to settle on the land tomorrow. We are ready from our end and so long as nobody delays we'll be ready to move on the building arrangements on the weekend, woot! Re: Building a PD Illoura 16Jun 19, 2008 12:01 pm woo hoo!! hope it all goes well!
