Turns out that we want a couple of powerpoints moved from one wall to another in the same room, an extra TV point next to an existing one, and the gas point for the BBQ in the Outdoor Room moved a couple of metres.
I document all these, complete with annotated screen-caps of our plans and email them off to our CSM 2 days ago. Now I realise most places charge a variation fee, so I expect to cop a bit ... say $250 ?
Here's our CSM's response:
So I replied with:
$1,000 variation fee is preposterous ... $250 or $500 I could understand, and I know that you have these sorts of penalties to stop people changing their minds willy-nilly. I also know that these are discretional and not mandatory. Given that it is our first (and I can guarantee) our last variation, any possibility of waiving the fee ?
I haven't heard back yet. However today I get a call from our SS, who is doing the rough-in today, and wants to clarify with me exactly where I want the gas point moved to. I tell him where I want it. No problem, he says !
Upon inspecting the place tonight, I noticed that all the things I asked for have been done. I still haven't given the CSM the OK yet, so I'll wait and see how this plays out. If I get a bill I'll ask for a copy of my authorisation to do the work !
