Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 28, 2010 6:58 pm We are in the frustrating position of having to give 4 weeks notice on our rental and being unable to get a PCI or handover date for our house. I was hoping someone who has been through it all before can give us a guess of how long we have to go. Our tiles have been completed this week, and next week we have the following booked in to be done: - carpet installed - shower screen/mirror/splashback installation - painters coming back to finish the master bedroom and do some touch ups - render painted. As far as I can tell, the only things left to do are: - staining the bifold doors - another coat on the front door - weather seals on all the doors - plumbing fit off - outdoor sensor lights to be installed - shelves to be installed in pantry and cupboards - appliances to be installed (day of handover I think?) - cleaning - inspections x 3 (big building supervisor, quality and our walkthrough) and associated fixes. I don't think anything major will come from this, us and our SS have been really happy with the quality of work done - the only things we have picked up is a few of the downpipes need to be dug down a bit more so we don't run over them with the lawnmower and some ******* bits of paintwork. I don't know when any of that will happen because I forgot to ask last time I was talking to our SS. Has anyone got any idea of how long I can expect? I am a bit concerned they won't give us a date until a week or two out then we are stuck paying rent on this house and not living here anymore! Our house is about 26sq and with PD. Cheers! Re: Help! How long until our house is ours? 2Jan 28, 2010 10:11 pm Hi We are building a 26sq with PD also. Our tiles were laid and in that week the taps/plumbing stuff fitted. The following couple of days carpet was laid. We were told an independent would come through and the managers would go through. Then about 2wks after that we'd get our PCI inspection and 1-2wks after would be handover. Carpets is the last thing they do except the touch ups and appliances. Hope thats helpful. Ring you SS though. Where are you building? We are building the Stanford in Taylors HIll VIC Re: Help! How long until our house is ours? 3Jan 28, 2010 10:44 pm Hi kateypink Thanks for that - we are building the foxley (with some modifications) in williams landing. From the sounds of your progress its still about 4-5 weeks away, which I guess is ok with my rental notice dilemma. I have asked the SS and CSC numerous times but they keep telling me next week, monday, wednesday, friday etc etc they would know a bit more. Now my CSC seems to be screening my calls Our 26 weeks is up around March 10 but I am fairly confident handover will be by then. Its so difficult seeing the house nearly done but still so far away they can't even give me an idea! Re: Help! How long until our house is ours? 4Jan 28, 2010 11:06 pm My CSC is a total air head LOL! My SS is pretty good but we have heaps of fixing to do. Im actually wanting about 2-4weeks after handover of living in our rental as we want the driveway etc done before moving day. I hate the '******' why not just tell you the truth or admit they do not know?!!! Yeah ours is soooo close but sooo much to fix!! Errrrrrrrrrrrrr Re: Help! How long until our house is ours? 5Jan 29, 2010 9:58 am That's why we have not given notice to our landlord even though we expect to be moving in within four weeks. We will survive a couple of weeks of extra rent, but if something holds up the building process and we have to move out of our rented house... Reading old threads is one reason why we are waiting before giving notice as there have been a number of desperate postings from people who have problems when unexpected delays occur.
