Have made a few phone calls to the relevant guy in the council, but had no response as yet from them. In the meantime, in the interest of making sure that this is all dealt with before our builder commences work I have started digging. I excavated the offending tank, have removed the walls and lidcompletely, and refilled the hole. I also found a single terracotta pipe that connected this tank to an adjacent one. This second tank had no lid and was filled with sand already. The fact there was no lid on it leads me to the conclusion that it had been decommissioned (genius huh?). There is no sign of any other plumbing leading off to leach drains or a third tank. Do you think this would be the whole contraption accounted for. A neighbour suggested that such tanks from the 50s and 60s often had no leach drains, but were a series of 3 tanks. Has anyone had a similar experience with underground tanks wrt their number and layout? Cheers A.
