Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- quick update cos its been a w 102Apr 14, 2010 9:15 pm Thanks guys. I am finding myself chomping on the bit as of late- not much is happening on my home front- ho hum!! Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- quick update cos its been a w 103Apr 15, 2010 8:21 am Hey Issy, Yes i too had been wondering what was happening with your build cause you hadnt been posting as much. Although i have just looked back and noticed that you had been on so i must of missed something along the line. Hope you got the nits thing under control, im dreading the day that one of my girls gets them. Hey i know this is prob a dumb question, but where exactly is Adelaide Plains? I went for a drive the other day to try and find the freeling show homes (dont even ask cause i could not find them, tried three times and in the end gave up and drove home But for some reason i had this idea that you lived somewhere around where i was driving. Im probably way off but there seemed to be lots of open land around there. Cant wait for the pic fest of your house. I to am wishing i could change a few things now, mainly just the grout colour on my walls in the bathrooms but to late now and im not prepared to pay them $500 for it, ill just see what it looks like i suppose and change later if i to can be bothered. V Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- quick update cos its been a w 105Apr 17, 2010 4:36 pm Hi V, What colour grout did you get? I wanted to change my wall and floor grout to inbetween the slate grey and black. Everyone talked me out of dark wall grout instead of white. I keep thinking I should have gone dark (and stuff everybody elses opinion) 'cos I know it wont stay pristinely white for very long at all. I hate the look of grubby wall grout down along the first couple of wall tiles from the ground up, especially in the shower recess. No matter what I do those lines of grout just never scrub up back to white. I have bought some grout sealer from Terrys' Tiles so after the cleaner has been I'll be sealing like mad. I got slightly lost (2wice actually) on my way to the freeling display homes too. Once I turned off the freeway just passed gawler there were no more signs to Freeling so I ended up on my way to Roseworthy. So After asking directions at the servo I found myself going in the backway to freeling. Then I drove around and after a couple of u-turns, right turns, left turns and more u-turns I jagged it. By then I had almost had enough. I've found that my brain gets too kerfuzzled when I walk through too many display homes. Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- quick update cos its been a w 107Apr 26, 2010 9:53 am Hi Issy! How is the house going, got any more pics yet? Cant remember if i replied in my PM about the grout, but we went with the really dark grout for the walls which we also used on the floor, at the time i thought it was going to be a good idea, something different blah blah blah but now i just think its going to look stupid. Im really hoping that i can catch the tiler when he/she is there and get them to use a different colour. I also am going to ask him if i can pay cash and get it tiled to the roof. Oh tell you what it definately was a debarcle trying to get to freeling, i still really want to go and see the houses but i dont think i will convince anyone to come with me, not after last time lol. V Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- quick update cos its been a w 108May 07, 2010 10:36 pm DAM DAM DAM . To say I'm dissappointed is not quite the word!! Hand-over (again) was to be this monday BUT it looks like we wont be accepting it (again). I had a tiler in after my SS left (we had all agreed that all was good and hand-over will be on Monday-NOT) BUT now it looks like my de-humpers didn't de-hump very well and this tiler said there is no way he would tile my floor. He went on to say that he has never seen a slab as bad as mine ever. DAM DAM DAM! I have another 2 tilers coming to give me quotes tomorrow and Monday so here's hoping that they have a better story to tell. Fingers crossed that he doesn't know what he's talking about but somehow I think I know..........................DAM DAM DAM !!!! Do all water connection points need to be painted around with that waterproof substance? Hi Lex, As far as I know this is the correct way but hardly any builders do it- any way they can cut a corner is a few more $$ in their pocket. Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- DAM- no handover AGAIN 110May 08, 2010 10:42 am Hi Issy, It's been quiet on your thread ... (and I also forgot about this question of mine ) ... What is the issue with floor tiling?! Can't they smudge some screed onto the floors to make them level?! I thought that unlevel slab is not an issue if you are tiling, since the tiler can always fix it either with extra glue or with screed Unless, of course, this is totally wrong and just my imagination of how the world spins ... Thanks for the reply too, I subsequently found out what waterproofing standards require. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- DAM- no handover AGAIN ??? 111May 08, 2010 6:05 pm Hi to all, well I have slightly better news (and a better quote) from tiler no.2. As I said in the Hickinbotham thread no.2 said it was do-able but he also couldn't promise a completely flat and level tiled floor. Am I expecting too much in this respect? Any opinions would be appreciated! He said over the span of my huge room (12.5m x 4.3m ish) the falls and rises wouldn't be so noticable but what would be is any large, long furniture (lounges/cupboards/sideboards etc). Mmmmmm- what else would I be putting in my family/dining room? (besides my family, that is). On the photo front murphy is at it again . Typical- I took some nice shots of my bathrooms and alfresco area and wouldn't you know it- I can't find the cord to upload the pics to my computer. Darned kids. So, T A F M F N, Issy PS- I know what you mean about you forgetting that you had posted questions/comments. So much to do/think/think about doing etc, it's hard to keep track of life sometimes, hey! Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- DAM- no handover AGAIN ??? 112May 08, 2010 6:28 pm Oh no not another setback. Let us know how you go on Monday. What type of tiles are you having throught your house? (sorry you have prob already mentioned but i really feel like i have baby brain at the moment and cant remember a dam thing). V Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- DAM- no handover AGAIN ??? 113May 09, 2010 9:37 am Hi V, no probs in asking again. Unless you read and remember every thread that you post on (including your own) from start to finish every time you post again it's too hard to keep track (and I'm not even sure if you had already asked, or even if I have already mentioned it). Anyway, my tiles are 500x500 ceramics from Beaumont Tiles. We got them for just under 1/2 price- It cost me $2,200 for 115 metres worth of tiles. I'm also putting in some feature diamonds in a black marble colour. Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- DAM- no handover AGAIN ??? 114May 09, 2010 9:59 am Can't your builders get in there with a sander and grind the floor down to a more level state? It shouldn't be that hard... Or have them ardit the lower sections to bring them closer to level. Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'-wet areas TAKE 2 115May 09, 2010 10:32 am Hi somewoman, I've reposted the following purely because I am a 4fingered typer and it tales me SOOOOOOOO long to type up a post. Mind you in the last couple of weeks I had progressed from 2 fingers to 4 . Anyway, I have been trying to keep track of your thread and boy, am I jealous of your tile selection-WOW I am in awe of your house. Despite all your troubles in a couple of years all the bad bits hopefully will be forgotten I am hoping this for me too! issy jo A big 'hello' to all who peruses my thread! Just a quick update 'cos it's been a while................ So Mr Wonderful Tiler has finished (actually, he finished about 3 weeks ago) and he did a wonderful job!. The painters have painted (again), the plumbers have plumbed (again) and they will have to come back again (yet once again I have had a tradie who didn't check to see if what they had done was right). We also had some concrete guys come and grind the slab flat as I had a few humps that needed de-humping. And guess what??? They, too, had to come back again as they missed the major hump. One made a comment that it shouldn't matter if I have humps with carpet and I politely informed him that I am tiling. Anyway, regardless of what flooring I'm going to do I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A FLAT SLAB,PLEASE! He also asked me if I knew of any more 'humps' that needed attention as he didn't want to get on all 4's with his long stick to see if I had any that needed grinding. . I told him very nicely (with tears in my eyes ) that I am the owner, NOT the supervisor, so it wasn't my job to tell him where to hump and grind, and I suggested that if he didn't want to be called back again he'd have to get down on all 4's and see to it himself. Which brings me to the the SS subject - I now have a new one. My original SS has done his back in and has now left. It quite amused me (NOT!) that my first SS NEVER had a measuring tape or a spirit level so I was constantly offering him to use mine so he could see there and then that things weren't level or that measurements were out. Now I'm waiting on the towel rails and toilet roll holders to be put up (straight this time would be good!!!) and the house re-cleaned and then there will be a photo-fest happening on this thread! TAFMFN, Issy Re: Issys 'Hamilton Alfresco'- DAM- no handover AGAIN ??? 116May 10, 2010 3:55 pm HAND-OVER!!!!! Wow- I now have the keys to my NEW NEW house.
