Re: Building surveyor - speed up building permit? 2Jan 24, 2010 5:39 pm The building surveyor issues the permit, so it's really up to them how fast or slow it gets issued. It also depends on whether they require further information, etc. Did you use a private surveyor, or are you going through council ? Make sure you underestimate the build cost when they ask you, so you can keep the cost low. I would say estimate your build at no more than 180-200K. I got my permits processed in less than 5 days through a private surveyer. When looking for a serveyer make sure you find someone how you feel confortable with and since your owner building someone who takes pride in their job. Re: Building surveyor - speed up building permit? 4Jan 24, 2010 6:21 pm jbdave, we havent done anything as of yet.... waiting for the 33 mistakes on our "final plan" to be fixed first How quick/slow did yours get through? Did you use a private surveyor? borg, please tell me Im paying $1500 for him to do something other than just get us our building permit.... Would I matter if I put a different estimate on our OB permit application?? 5 days Better than 10 weeks, and worth the money and my sanity I suppose! And Ill need a land surveyor to peg out our house too.... Im assuming Im looking at another $2k-ish??? *off to fill in our spreadsheet with what we've paid so far* Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! The surveryour will approve you plans and takes on the responsility on signing off for your build. The also orgainse all the paper work and send to coucil on your behalf. the 1500 also include governent insurance which is based on the contract price of your house. Also he will do a min of 4 visits to your house. btw land surveyor should cost around 300-350 and well worth the money. 2000 is only when you need to do reestablishment or subdividing etc. Re: Building surveyor - speed up building permit? 6Jan 24, 2010 6:50 pm I thought that the $1800 was his fees, plus whatever the council would charge so that makes me feel better And yah for $350 for the land surveyor! Btw, Im going to reply to you tonight Been soo busy So now..... anyone with recs for a building surveyor and/or land surveyor in City of Whittlesea!? Did you use a private surveyor? Used a private surveyor, a company i use a lot at work so i trust them to do the right thing by me. They approved the drawings in a few days. I did check them first though to correct any omissions before sending them off so that saved some time. My inspections were also quick so it didn't delay the house. I would always use a private surveyor. Council are too unreliable in almost anything they do (for example, town planning) so I wouldn't trust them. Re: Building surveyor & Land Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 10Jan 31, 2010 8:29 pm I cant really help you... but just wanted to say it's nice to see things moving along!!! Well except of course those 33 mistakes in your final plans!!! After handover we're avoiding the council... my dad is a private building surveyor (based two hours south east of melbourne though...) so he'll do all our permits and plans post-handover. I can quiz him on his contacts at Whittlesea... he doesn't know the building surveyors who work fo the council, but he may know some private ones. I'll get back to you Re: Building surveyor & Land Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 11Jan 31, 2010 8:50 pm Private is good!
