Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 25, 2010 6:27 pm Any one building with m'con, did you need to change ur carpet after you chose your tiles? We had to do ALL our selections at studio M except the tiles which we do at a much later appoint (after all contracts are signed, which is done) Now we are looking at tiles, we are thinking we will upgrade which may mean we need to re choose our carpet. Just wanting to know if they will sting us with a fee to do so, which I would think is really unfair considering its almost impossible to choose carpet without tiles and vice versa. And therefore should just be able to change to suit the tiles we choose. Wondering why they would do this anyway, are they the only builder who do this? Why would you not do all colours together? Re: M'con people...changing carpet after tile selection? 3Jan 25, 2010 7:44 pm As I understand it, things have changed down in NSW. While we took our carpet/tiling out of contract, we've been told that selections are done directly through Di Lorenzo now, and you pay them directly as well, regardless. Where are you up to, in your build process? Stefan Building the M3tr!con Liberty 42 at Stonecutters Ridge. The New Build Blog - "Life, In Progress." But when we select colours, only carpet is done and tiles at a later date. I find this strange as you need to align both to see what will match. how can you pick one without the other?? And they only have 2-3 tiles to select from their 'standard; range at colour selection and then you have to go to a tile place later to do your tiles separately. Re: M'con people...changing carpet after tile selection? 5Jan 25, 2010 9:34 pm We took our main floor and carpet out...but were told to do the tile selection before colour apt. In qld you can go to studio m on the w'ends and look at the carpet range etc and also go to the tile supplier (beaumonts up here) and have a look before your apt. The tile place will usually give you samples that you can then take to the carpet store / studio M. Not sure what happens now for you though...I would assume they'll hit you up for the $500 colour variation fee. In NSW you have a tiling/carpet appt. later on in the build process, but they definitely are picked at the same time. The only thing that needs to be picked early (and unable to be taken out of contract), is the wet area tiling, but I've never heard of the carpet having to be chosen early. I agree, you definitely need to chose these two together. It doesn't make sense otherwise. Stefan Building the M3tr!con Liberty 42 at Stonecutters Ridge. The New Build Blog - "Life, In Progress." We are not building with Metricon. Since the original carpet choice we have changed it twice-from same range but different type. We are not going to look at the carpet again but glad we changed it. No variation fees for any changes. Re: M'con people...changing carpet after tile selection? 8Jan 26, 2010 7:27 am I will have something to say if they try and charge us $500!! They never told us to go and look at tiles to see. We were just told, 'dont worry about it you'll do that later" So it was the last thing on my mind I have pretty much found a tile now and of course being out of the 'standard' is going to cost $2000 extra, so there is no way in hell they are going to try and charge $500 Ill go in tomorrow with my tile and see if it matches the carpet, but if not ill make them chnage it and then blame them for having such a crap method!
