Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 22, 2010 9:07 pm Hi, all I got call from the builder and want us cut off the grass and remove the rubbish by ourselves before they start to build house on our land! Is it necessary for us to do it? From my understand, builder will do the site cut, which of the depth should be more than 200mm .if so they will clean up everything straight away! Why need us to do it? Here is the pic of our land, can anyone advise? Perhaps contact your builder's admin and check whether this is just a standard phone call made prior to all builds commencing. Email them a recent photo and ask if it's OK. We had to cut our grass/clean up (but this was a Council requirement relating to fire hazard). It had to be less than 15 cm long. Re: Grass cutting & Rubbish Removal before construction start 3Jan 23, 2010 10:00 am maybe it is do with the dumping of the soil removed from your block? I know my builder required that we poisoned all grasses 6 weeks before, otherwise we would incur an additional charge to dump the fill as it would not be classed as clean. Re: Grass cutting & Rubbish Removal before construction start 4Jan 23, 2010 11:10 am Thanks for above replies! I will check with our builder and send them photos after cleaning and ask them if it's ok! So, we don't need to fully remove the grass we just need to cut it shorter than 15cm or use weedkiller, is that right? Thanks Re: Grass cutting & Rubbish Removal before construction start 5Jan 23, 2010 12:44 pm We had to do that too. Maybe it's for accurate measuring and marking? Who knows? Just whipper snip it roughly to get the long grass a bit shorter. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Grass cutting & Rubbish Removal before construction start 6Jan 23, 2010 12:55 pm Hey guys, our block needs this done as well. The length of ours is about 1m do you think we should whipper snipper first, then weedkiller or just bung on heaps of weedkiller? There is no lawn etc to speak of that we want to keep. Thanks Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Grass cutting & Rubbish Removal before construction start 7Jan 23, 2010 4:22 pm Hmmmm, I've been wondering about this as well??? We have grass growing nearly to the full height, or just over, of our left retaining wall (see old pic attached of retaining wall to see height referred above). http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz237/nandn02/Home/P1010153.jpg Would we need to clear this before our site start? Re: Grass cutting & Rubbish Removal before construction start 8Jan 23, 2010 4:27 pm My understanding with our builder, is that the block has to be clear of debris/rubbish and the grass cut, prior to them commencing the build. We've already mowed and cleared our block once last year. We are planning to go out again this week to mow as the grass is at knee height. I guess it's not just about having it short for the builders, as per the contract. Nearly all the houses in our street have been established for up to 2 years and an unmowed block looks really ugly. I feel for my neighbours having to look at it every day.
