I like how it defines that particluar area. It also houses our AC vent. I think they look great and like Southies said, they define an area Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Dropped ceiling/ bulkhead in the kitchen yay or nay? 4Jan 21, 2010 1:42 pm I didn't have any bulkheads in my kitchen in the first house that I built, and was always up there cleaning the top of the cabinets (with three cats you'd be amazed at where the furballs and dust bunnies collect!!). The second house that I built had the bulkheads, and was so much easier - plus I think that they just give it a much cleaner look. The house that we're building now has a dropped ceiling in the kitchen (2m I think - maybe a bit more, as opposed to 2.7 everywhere else in the house). I think it really delineates that space from the rest of the room in an open plan design. Re: Dropped ceiling/ bulkhead in the kitchen yay or nay? 5Jan 21, 2010 2:19 pm yes from me as well, as the others have said, it breaks up open plan kitchen/living/dining areas. Southies, I love the dark colour of your kitchen cabinets - could you tell me what company e.g. laminex etc and the colour? I went to my friend's new house (bought off the plan) and there is no bulkhead over the kitchen pantry, linen cupboard. Just look kinda not defined/streamlined, of course I kepy my mouth quiet and didn't say anything about that. Am glad my plan has bulkhead over linen cupboard and pantry. And thank you penny77 for posting a pic of your dropped ceiling. Another question, is everyone continuing with the cornices around the dropped ceiling (as a continuation of the cornices in the rest of the room eg. penny77's pic above? Re: Do you like dropped ceilings/bulkheads in the kitchen? 12Feb 27, 2010 1:46 pm We have a dropped ceiling in our kitchen. All our ceilings are 2.7 high, the dropped ceiling is 300mm making the kitchen ceiling 2.4 high. We also have square set as we did not want any cornice in the living areas. I would not have a dropped ceiling if the the house had 2.4m high ceilings as I feel it would make the kitchen ceiling feel like it was on your head. The kitchen and dining are on either side of the kitchen, so it is a really long room, and i wanted to define the kitchen. Re: Do you like dropped ceilings/bulkheads in the kitchen? 15Feb 27, 2010 8:30 pm I'm a big fan of dropped ceilings. Unfortunately we couldn't incorporate one in our design.
