Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 41Mar 06, 2010 3:37 pm Hi Rosie and Chris That's fantastic progress, it's encouraging to see something accomplished every week. The guys building over the road from us had their slab down mid December and they are just getting their roof timbers on now, so yours and our progress is steaming along compared to theirs (poor things). It makes us so grateful that we chose Celebrations. Looking forward to seeing your photos and hopefully an update next week with photos of roof tiles . It must be so hard with the back and forth between parents houses, what slimeballs to not move out when told, I just don't understand some people. I hope this all works out well for you guys. How frustrating and really how low are some people to camp out in a house that is not theirs.....wrong in so many levels My husband drove past your house the other day and said it was looking great. Great progress that is for sure!! Yes very excited about prestart. I think all the file is completed, will have another look through it tonight I think. We have gone with Cervantes brick for first choice and Naturaliste for the second choice. Both a light creamy colour brick. I am still undecided on the kitchen colours, OMG it is doing my head in. We are going to the Butler display home again today to have a look at the kitchen. My sister is due to have her first baby and my first niece on Thursday (prestart day) so I have my fingers crossed that she actually goes over her due date as my Mum is watching my daughter so we can do the prestart in peace!! We have heard that the titles wont be released now until late April....they were supposed to be released in late March. Not that it makes any difference to us though really. Building in Perth. Pre-start complete 25th March 2010 Titles due April 2010 Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 43Mar 08, 2010 3:17 pm Thanks for your lovely messages guys we have been pretty down about the whole thing but we just cant wait for our beautiful home to be finished! I love this house so much! Everyday we go and see something new it becomes more and more real! MNH those bricks sounds lovely! I think they were some of our choices too! Be sure to check out the 'Jurien' brick when you get to the prestart meeting. They have a sample there and I actually dont think 'Jurien' is in the selections file. We thought we had our bricks all picked out and then when we got to prestart and saw the Jurien we just had to choose that one haha! Its a lovely brick. Creamy colour also. What kind of kitchen colours are you leaning towards? The Butler display is pretty much the colours we chose, I think it looks great the only thing I was worried about was flooring in the kitchen because the cabinets are quite dark it would be hard to have timber flooring etc. Oh so many decisions for you to make! eek! It is so so exciting though! Oh my goodness I cant believe your niece is due on the same day too. Lots of excitement for you, hopefully she hangs in a little longer hehe maybe she can come on Thursday night instead of during the day Hoping to see some roof tiles this week, I thought they may have been delivered on the weekend but no such luck I drove past this morning and there were no workers at the house so I wonder if they are giving ours a break for a little bit. I shouldnt be so greedy I know!! haha! Rosie xoxo Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 44Mar 09, 2010 1:38 pm Ahhh thanks Rosie. I had seen a few of you use Jurien but no it is not in the folder so I thought maybe I may not have that choice so yippeee I dare say I will choose that one because I do love the Jurien. Bit if bad news We have had to cancel our prestart on Thursday. I suffer a condition that means I have increased pressure in my head. I have been fine for 5yrs but lately I felt the pressure increase and it affects my vision. I am waiting on a call as my GP is urgently trying to get me into a Neurologist in teh next day or so. So while I am feeling so lousy we thought it best that we cancel prestart and we have booked it for March 25th. I am really sad but I really am not too good at the moment. I cant even drive as I am feeling so dizzy from it. With the kitchen colours I am still so undecided. I LOVE the butler display kitchen. But we are thinking darker tiles- I don't want wooden floors. So now I am thinking that a white kitchen may be best and I will just bring in colour to brighten it up. Sooooo hard. We have also had a problem with our land valuation. We had everything ready to go for the bank and had preappoval. But the bank needed to value the land and also have our building contract before going to unconditional approval. Sooooo last week they valued the land at $210k when we are paying $225k for it. And now the bank has asked for an extra $6k in the deposit. The reason is because when we settle we get a $10k rebate on the land and a $5k Myer voucher. The bank take those off the value of the land. So no-one mentioned this too us at all. Just so annoying as we had everything in order and now the $6k has to come from our extra bit we were going to put into the house. Oh well we will get there!!! Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Pre-start complete 25th March 2010 Titles due April 2010 Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 45Mar 09, 2010 2:52 pm MNH! I am so sorry to hear you are unwell That is terrible about the pressure you are suffering in your head and you vision! I hope you are resting and taking it easy! This is so unfair You health is most important though as soon as you have that sorted you can get straight back into prestart. Oh yes if you are going darker tiles white would probably be best for the kitchen cabinets. You could always swap the colours around - white cabinets and dark bench tops. That might look quite good. But as you say you can always bring in colours to the kitchen, maybe neutral colours are a good option. I cant believe the land valuation problems you are now having. That is ridiculous! I dont understand how these things happen, why werent you warned about this to begin with Will you get the rebate as soon as the land settles? Hope you will be ok, make sure you rest and try relax! Just picture you in your brand new house! Be positive! Rosie xoxo Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 46Mar 09, 2010 3:22 pm Thanks Rosie. It has been quite difficult. I have my Mum looking after my Daughter as I am feeling so dizzy and it is hard to get up and down to a 2yr old. Yeah I am really annoyed about the valuation. We should get the rebate and voucher just after settlement. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. Pre-start complete 25th March 2010 Titles due April 2010 Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 47Mar 16, 2010 2:18 pm Hi Rosie Sorry to hear about your housing issue, hopefully you wont have to live with the family for too long...the house is making great progress! We chose the colour bond, neither of us have had a colour bond roof before so we thought we would give it a go and then we will know which we prefer for our next project... Our house is coming along well, the roof frame is all up, my partner went past the house this morning and he said that some of the roof has been delivered, we were told that the roof will be started on Thursday so fingers crossed it will all go to plan, we have also had some of the walls chased out for the electrics etc, things seem to be going pretty smoothly at the moment with no delays...hope I haven’t spoken too soon on that though!! How are they coming with yours, have they finished with the roof tiles yet?? Are you pleased with how it’s all looking and the progress, is it all as expected?? The walk in robes in the bedroom is a bit bigger than I expected... I am sure I will fill them with no problem but they just seem large in comparison to the bedroom, everything is great though, and the house feels very spacious, can't wait for it to be finished! Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 48Mar 16, 2010 2:31 pm Hi Debs! Thanks so much for your message! Great to hear your place is coming along nicely too! We are very happy with our progress also. No tiles have been delivered yet but all the plumbing has been done and the cut outs in the wall are there for the electrics! So exciting. I popped by yesterday and it looks like the plumbers are finished completely so it will just be up to the electricians to get in there and then hopefully the tiles will be delivered and put on. I did notice yesterday a bit of scaffolding had been put up on the roof so maybe this is for the tilers! You are right the walk in robes are HUGE! We are loving the house so much now and are estimating daily when we think it might be ready by. We have worked out that if it takes the full 26 weeks it will be finished in July but if it takes 22weeks like they have been averaging it will be finished in June! I like the June option better so hopefully all goes to plan ) I think we will be picking our keys up at the same time Debs! We are lucky all the brick work and roof has been done in such good weather, least there will be no excuses when it starts raining! I have to post some photos up soon of our lovely home to be! Keep me updated with your place, hope all goes well on Thursday! Rosie Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 49Mar 16, 2010 2:31 pm MNH How are you feeling? Hope everything is ok! Rosie Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 50Mar 16, 2010 4:22 pm Hi again! How fast things progress.....Matt (my partner) drove past the house again on his way home from work today and we have half of the roof on already! Can't wait to get home from work today to go and have a look, I never expected them to be ahead of schedule!! 22 weeks would be great, our lease is up at the beginning of May and we are renewing on a monthly basis so if we could get in there in June that would be fantastic! Debs Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 51Mar 17, 2010 2:54 pm Hello Debs! That is fantastic about your roof being on! Wow! They do move fast. Celebration Home have been fantastic with being ahead of schedule! We drove by ours yesterday after work and saw tiles had been delivered and scaffolding had been put up on the roof so I am predicting today the guys will be tiling! Hopefully! Cant wait to finish up work and go check hehe! How did yours look when you went yesterday? Im hoping we didnt pick the wrong tiles, I was looking at them yesterday and they do look quite dark , hopefully with the render though it will look good! Rosie Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 52Mar 24, 2010 12:29 pm Hi Rosie, The house is looking great, we too thought that maybe the roof colour was a bit dark but I think that its going to look great, I took a photo of our choices while we were at prestart so that we could remember what it was going to look like, I really couldnt remember what colours we had chosen for the render! I wish that they had a better package at prestart which shows your house and then you could play around with the colours of the roof etc to see what looks good. All the plumbing/electrics/tv points etc have been put in, we also now have a new pile of sand so it looks as though the plastering is going to start soon. I am so pleased that they had secured our roof before the storm on Monday! Have they put the roof on yours yet?? Debs Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 53Mar 24, 2010 12:52 pm Interesting to read about the 22 weeks and 26 weeks estimates. We were told 25-35 weeks from slab down. This is with Celebrations in the SW. Our slab was down mid-November, so the build has taken 18 weeks so far, and estimated another 14 weeks away. Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 54Mar 24, 2010 12:57 pm Hi Lachjor We were give a rough time line of 6 months from the date the slab went down, our slab went down on 18th Jan and are at the internal plastering stage, what stage are they at with your house? Debs Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 55Mar 24, 2010 1:22 pm We reached lock-up on the 9th March. They estimate 10-12 for practical completion, then another two weeks for any last minute issues they bring up, then PCI, then another 2 weeks to deal with any issues we bring up. Then finally handover! They said to allow the full 16 weeks. Things seem to be progressing quickly, with cabinets being installed the day after lock-up, the plumber was out there too, and the tiler should be finishing up any day now. BUT this is the way it's been the whole way through, we speed up and then something holds us up for a week or two! It'll be worth it though Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 56Mar 24, 2010 3:03 pm Hi Debs Things are a little terrible for us The only thing that has been done in the last 2 weeks is the plumbing and delivery of tiles. Nothing else. There has apparently been a delay with the tilers so we had no cover on our eaves when the downpour came on Monday So I guess they will have to replace every thing on the eaves, alfresco and garage. Anyways we called celebration homes yesterday because we are feeling like our house is a bit deserted haha. Apparently tilers are starting on Friday. What makes it worse is our construction coordinator is on annual leave until April so our the house seems to be in limbo Will keep you updated hopefully we will see some changes by the weekend! Great to hear yours is on track, it will be at lock up in no time at all, its so exciting! We are finally in the rental house now so having our own space is fantastic! Just cant wait to have our own space in our very own house! Keep me updated with yours Rosie Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 57Mar 30, 2010 8:58 pm Hi Rosie I was thinking of you today. Anymore progress? That's terrible about the lack of work going on at the house. Did they have to replace the eaves? Hopefully they will get a little kick up the ... and get on with it. Hang in there! Thanks for your message, how are you? Good news is we have tiles on the roof. They seem to be dragging their heels a bit though which makes me sad, it’s not like we ever delay paying them It’s taken so long to get those tiles up there and there is one small section that still hasn’t been tiled, just over the garage, looks like they have run out of tiles ahhhh just wish it would be finished already. Apart from all those negative things though, the tiles look great and I am so happy with our choice I must get photos up soon! Its so hard not having the internet set up at home. One other thing I have noticed is the amount of rubbish on site The pile of broken tiles outside our door step is HUGE (hence why I think they have run out) and we still have old packs of bricks left over just sitting there. Not to mention the rubbish inside the house haha! I hate mess so its annoying me a little bit, hopefully today they have emptied the skip and cleaned up a bit. Anyways I am trying to stay positive and not let it get me down. We love the house so far and I am happy to wait. How is your place going? I saw your great photos! Lock up yay!! That is so exciting! Not long now! You should definitely be in by May then!! Wow!! Two months you must be hanging out! Do you know what you are going to do first in terms of painting or carpets etc? Chris and I were discussing this the other day, we want to take a bit of time off work when we get the keys so we can organise things and maybe do painting before getting carpets and tiles laid (I know you are technically meant to wait a few months before painting though) Not sure how we will go about it. My one friend who has just finished building with Celebration Homes has gone through the whole house and painted, carpets down, tiles down - looks amazing although Im not sure we will have the time to do this - especially in winter. Oh so much to think about! Hope you are well Can’t wait to see more photos of your lovely home! Rosie Re: Slab this week - Celebration Homes 59Mar 31, 2010 11:36 pm Hi Rosie Congrats on the roof Woohoo We have exactly the same issue with the rubbish, there was their lunch, drink bottles, wrappers oh and a tad of building rubbish. It got so bad for us that a stray dog took claim of the house as he got a free feed every night. Luckily we had a site clean a few days later. If it is really bad, maybe you should get them to clean it up but it won't be long before the bobcat comes so they can get ready for the next stage. Won't be long until they start the float (hopefully). Ours is motoring along. Didn't have anything happen at the beginning of the week but today the painters were there putting the undercoat on the render and doing the gutters. I think they were also doing something inside but not sure what, will have to check it out properly tomorrow. We were told today that we need to change the floor tiles in the ensuite as they are on back order and wouldn't be in until mid May which would put it way back in schedule. So off to Crosby tiles on Saturday to pick new ones. Hopefully it will all work out. There is so much to do after moving in isn't there? It is quite overwhelming in a way! We are getting Celebrations to do the tiling to living areas & hallways and we have organised our own carpet and laminate for bedrooms. As we have 3 littlies we are getting the carpet etc laid straight after handover to avoid too much disruption to kids. Painting...I think we will seal the walls ASAP but will wait to do proper painting until we have lived there for a few months, we just can't decide on colours. Anyway, hope you are enjoying your own space now and we get some great news next week from you. We have had both the interior and exterior rendered and the ceiling have been put up, apparently the windows were due to be started yesterday, and it looks as though lock up wont be too far away! Are you having a pre lock up meeting with your building supervisor? I spoke to our new build co-ordinator yesterday and she offered one, just wasn’t really sure what it was for though! I know what you mean about the rubbish, we complained to Celebration homes during the bricklaying as there was rubbish everywhere, every thing that had been eaten or drunk had just been thrown on the floor and there were cigarette buts everywhere, it was everywhere and looked awful….not to mention the amount of ants that they had attracted! I don’t know how hard it can be for them just to throw their rubbish in the skip! I am not sure that Celebration homes did anything about it but it is defiantly better now... I think that’s just because we have different builders there now though as we still have some of the original rubbish around the site. We have also had a mattress, a door and a dead tree dumped in our skip, all of which the builders then have taken out and have left on the side of the road. Do you know if it’s down to us to get rid of any rubbish that has been dumped on the site or is it Celebrations homes responsibility? We are happy with everything else so far, although our build co-ordinator called the other day to tell us that the rear roller door which we are having to the garage is not available and that they can offer us a different one, it didn’t matter too much to us so we agreed to the different one but when we asked if we could change it from the cream one to the wood effect they said that it would cost us $250 for the variation, I don’t really get why they can change things for free but when we want to amend something that they have changed because the option was not there for us in the first place it costs us $250!! I am waiting for them to come back to me on it. Have they finished the gap in the roof yet? Debs Hi Everyone I learned something this week that I thought would be worth sharing.
