Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 18, 2010 9:11 pm Hello We are building in outer eastern Melbourne. The roof tiles are about to be started and I was wondering if anyone had a preference between the Boral Striata roof tiles or the Monier flat roof tiles (both in black) as we can choose either. Does anyone know if either are a better quality tile or if one is cheaper than the other? Thanks for any feedback. Lee Re: Boral Striata or Monier flat roof tiles? 2Jan 18, 2010 9:25 pm It's probably a personal aesthetics choice, ultimately. The costs are probably similar considering that they're a flat-profile concrete tile with similar colours. For what it's worth, I prefer the smooth, clean look of the Monier flat profile. The striated texture give the Boral one a rough appearance that makes it look like it's in need of maintenance in my eyes Re: Boral Striata or Monier flat roof tiles? 3Jan 18, 2010 9:37 pm Hey Lee, I'm not sure about quality but I'm guessing they would be much of a muchness. They're both well know brands and pretty widely used. I prefer the look of the Boral Striata ones. I like the slight texture they have. It's not really noticeable I suppose but I like it. Not sure why, I just do. We have Boral Classic Shake, which is similar in the Striata in that it has the 'lines' or 'texture' to it, hence the name- striata, Latin for 'lined' or 'striped.' Our facade is so plain (face brick) we thought we needed a little more texture to the roof. Do you have a plain facade or lots of interesting bits with render etc?
