Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 16, 2010 11:58 pm HI all, We are looking at a range of builders at the moment. I have taken an interest in the NuSteel product. Has anyone had experience using this company and their unique building strategies in SE Queensland (or anywhere for that matter)? Cheers Alf... Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 2Jan 17, 2010 12:13 am I have/am used/using them in South Australia. I am very happy with the home/design and materials, but not so happy about the service I am getting (but that may be an SA branch thing only?) What would you like to know? Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 3Jan 17, 2010 12:28 am Hi Hills, Everything...just jokes! I am interested in Nusteel, as I like the idea of an accurate computer cut and costed frame. Plus they sell themselves as a less expensive alternative. I also like the idea of their Client De-risk approach...how has this worked for you? I would like to hear what the problem with their service is. But also: - How many houses have you built with them and why did you go back to them? - Were they cheaper than a off the shelf AVJennings type product? We are probably looking to get them to build and supply most of a house. But, in Queensland, they dont have a display home and the head office is in Maroochydore, <I live in Brisbane, but would drive up to the office if I decide to enquire further>. They do have a 3d modelling of floorlplans, which will help visualize this. But it will be hard to visualize the inclusions they offer...How did you see get to see what you were going to get, before you got it. thanks again, ALf... Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 4Jan 17, 2010 12:48 am Hi Alf We built an extension with NewSteel some years ago. The service was great, the price even better, and all went really well (they were very helpful and supportive) This time around there was a new manager (and 2 more since then), and the service isnt what it used to be. (having said that they have done everything they said they would, but it sometimes required more chasing by me than I thought was reasonable. We have built a much larger version of the Wilderness (we liked the plan and modified it from there - you can see the plan in the owner builder forum). I am a fan of steel framing, and have done most of the work myself. Getting them to build it for you should eliminate all of the problems/misunderstandings we had with them. Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 5Jan 17, 2010 1:04 am Hi Hills, Wow, that is a really big house!!! LOVE the views... How far away from moving in are you? Do you know anyone else who has built with the company? Are there any other threads on this forum (a search doesn't return many, it even missed yours). What is it about the steel that you are a fan of (anti termite would be one reason, accurate framing probably another)? On the issue of the frame, how do they guarantee against rust? Regards Alf... Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 6Jan 17, 2010 10:06 am We are getting close to moving in, hopefully by March. (not that it will be completely finished, but enough to live in. I have met others who have built with Nu-Steel, but don’t know them well enough to speak for their experiences. To date I have not found any other topics on this forum. Your reasons for using steel frames are spot on, and being in a bushfire area it provides some extra protection. As for rust, if assembled correctly the protective coating on the steel will do the job. Here in SA, Nu-Steel had a small bare frame they erected in the elements at their display centre, after 10 years there wasn’t a sign of rust on it. (If I was building by the sea, I might look into this closer however) Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 7Mar 19, 2012 11:18 am I have a family friend who built with them years ago and now building their second house with them. They were extremely pleased with the customisation of it all, I'll ask more next time I see them, but this time round, their 2 storey house started nearly month and half before my slab even went down and my roof has now been tiled and brickwork about to start and their build is still at framed stage, nothing new has happened. Not sure what the hold up is but they are very jealous that I'm now ahead of them Good for me, not for them BB Barossa Bubbles Building own design Fairmont Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51265&hilit=Barossa+Bubbles Roof on-bricks next Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 8Mar 23, 2012 7:46 am None of those 'recent builds' look familiar. We are in SA though, The roof was put on yesterday and their son is doing their electrical so he also started that yesterday! Now they've reverted to being one step ahead of me BB Barossa Bubbles Building own design Fairmont Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51265&hilit=Barossa+Bubbles Roof on-bricks next Re: Anyone built with Nu Steel homes??? 9Sep 23, 2012 4:26 pm Google search "kit homes". There are some companies that specialise in luxury homes using this method. They are really nice and generally save around $200-300/sqm using there system.
