Yes, who wants to get beautiful Lilydale toppings and watch them float away! We had extra drainage in the driveway before ~ so we knew we'd need some extra pits ~ even with the same drainage plumber who did the work before, he had to work down the opposite side of the block with no access to the back on the garage side ~ just made things that much trickier. He wasn't so happy with the fall he had to work with. _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Drainage, driveway, carpet, floor! :: our Fairhaven Glen 623Nov 07, 2011 9:30 am OMG, still loving the wall colour, love the timber floors and I must say, you have great taste in carpet (ours looks the same.lol - Heathwood, Winters Night, Carpet court). It really matches the house well though. It looks great! I sometimes still wish I could've stretched to the agg but probly would have been overkill for our location. I like the floor coverings as well, they match your colour scheme really well! Built with Sw1tch H0mes >Build thread< House status 15/12: Gates and A/C finally installed! When you have a spare moment, could you please PM me your concretors contact details? Guys, thanks so much for all your kind words! We are loving living back here. I have barely caught my breath from Christmas... January is a horribly busy month at work + the timing could not be worse with the school holidays. It has taken + is taking such a long time to get the basics done with the landscaping. We have nearly finished 'repairing' the nature strip back to how it was before... I will get myself organised with some pics of how we're going + share them as soon as I can! _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Drainage, driveway, carpet, floor! :: our Fairhaven Glen 631Jan 16, 2012 6:59 am Stormy Absolutely stunning driveway, VT. I love your explanations of the drainage, so useful (now, why didn't you build earlier so I can read all those useful bits!!! )! I had no idea that you could use the pits to "fix" (readjust) the levels (to some extent) - sooooo smart!! Great to see that you had a great concretor, very lucky I guess! BTW, from your pics it looks to me that they made the saw cuts when it was all still very fresh - right before they started washing off the top layer?? Oh BTW, happy New Year (with a considerable, but justifiable delay)!! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Happy New Year! :: our Fairhaven Glenaire 633Feb 05, 2012 12:34 am Lex Hi VT, it's all lovely, lovely, lovely, beautiful!! Agree, we were so lucky with our concretor, recommended via a tradie friend, amazing guys. Not 100% sure about the timing of the saw cuts... you are very knowledgeable about these things Lex! I honestly didn't know how much that mattered! Good to know. _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Happy New Year! :: our Fairhaven Glenaire 634Feb 05, 2012 12:39 am F i n a l l y, as promised, some inside pictures. Please forgive me for the delay, I am a hassled working mother coming off the back of one of the worst couple of months at work with very pressured deadlines…. and possibly I’m not a natural at putting rooms together! I shouldn’t apologise too much for having old furniture ~ some of it is much loved! ~ but there are things we will want to get as we go on. No rush! We expect to be here for a v e r y long time! OK, the powder room: http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Powderroom10Dec11.jpg We made an error with this room that we didn’t pick up until too late. The cavity slider is between the powder room and the hallway (on the right of the pic). But the laundry (to the left), HAS NO DOOR. As this is not always the tidiest room in the house ~ given the amount of continual debris thrown in there ~ this is really not ideal. So I’m trying to think of a creative solution for this… The “lanai” or alfresco-type area: These pics are from Christmas time… so the decorations are quite colourful (yes a bit piñata-like!). Looking into the lanai from the family room through the bi-fold window. In the display, this is another stacker door. We changed this as we wanted a bit more wall in the family room. http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Lanaifromfamily0124Dec11.jpg Even the treadmill is looking festive… http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Lanai02b1524Dec11.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Lanai0324Dec11.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Lanai04b1524Dec11.jpg This picture very artificially brightened… I wanted to show the patterns that those fans were throwing onto the ceiling at nighttime. We love being out there in that room! We are finding all sorts of excuses to be out there! http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Lanai05b3024Dec11.jpg The kitchen! OK, we still need bar stools, window coverings, light fittings… + it would be nice to have a stainless steel fridge, microwave, dishwasher… but there could be a bit of a wait for all these things, so here are some pics for now. Not a classic all-white kitchen, all-white and us just doesn’t work! I’m looking for a picture to put on the pantry door (it’s too white for me!) http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0103Feb12.jpg Can you see a glimpse of our very *green* old couches in the background (vintage nineties Ikea! ~ passed on from my sister…)? While I love green, I have to admit that the heritage green / forest green colour of these couches is NOT and never has been my favourite … however our grey walls are a bit magical with how they make the other colours glow somehow... even the old green couches are looking ‘softened’ and kind of better than they ever have before! http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0203Feb12.jpg This little ‘collection’ of green things up on these shelves is how I love to do things… 45 different shades of green in one corner! I hope I can somehow have little clusters like this over the whole house… http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0303Feb12.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0403Feb12.jpg I read somewhere (was it here on Home1?) how portrait photos of your home are more ‘flattering’ than landscape photos. It seems crazy till you compare the pic above with the pic following here… http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0503Feb12.jpg The inclusion of our aging but very functional fridge does nothing for the kitchen! Very very happy with how the floors have come up against the Ash Zebrano laminate. http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0603Feb12.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0703Feb12.jpg http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/Kitchen0803Feb12.jpg You are all so patient, it’s fantastic. We’ve been in for about 3 and a half months now, and find it amazing to live here. I love it, being back home. I feel like I’m living in a resort. It seems like a dream! This is the view we wake up to. http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy322/vanilla_tree/landscapestitchattemptvfin-204Nov11JPG.jpg I promise I will keep updating as we go, however slowly. Landscaping I must admit we are behind on… we must flatten out the backyard before the tree planting goes in… I will have to get a proper landscaping thread together soon. _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Powder ~ lanai ~ kitchen ~ pics! :: our Fairhaven Glenaire 635Feb 05, 2012 3:10 am Oh VT it's so gorgeous!
