Re: Is roof ventilation compulsory for a tin roof in WA? 6Jan 16, 2010 3:06 pm I do! There aren't any whirly birds on my Colorbond roof or anything. I thought it was a compulsory thing Australia wide as everyone talks about it. We'ved waited incase someone has to come back for it but it's getting to a point I don't think it's going in and before I ask I want to know. And if it isn't, then I'll put it in after handover as it'll be cheaper that way, and can start looking at prices now. Re: Is roof ventilation compulsory for a tin roof in WA? 7Jan 16, 2010 3:13 pm Some people will disagree... But my tip is get one or 2... or 3 Definately over your bathrooms so the moist air is exhausted free-to-outside-air. Otherwise, you will be getting ready to anti mold everything and your ceiling space will absorb moisture (insulation). ...tip of the year so far! ^^^ Don't care what anyones says if the roof space is hot then I'd like to be able to vent it. If you have a canopy rangehood, that should need to be flued thru to the open air. I know my roof went on and I wondered when the vents were going to be put in... some guy comes around and that's all he does is put those on houses. It should have the requirements noted on the plans you got given when the council approved it. Have a look at them and see what it says. Re: Is roof ventilation compulsory for a tin roof in WA? 9Jan 16, 2010 4:32 pm ^^ make sure they are ducted, not just to roof space with a WB on the roof top Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Is roof ventilation compulsory for a tin roof in WA? 10Jan 16, 2010 4:39 pm Our roof has exhaust fans ventilated to the exterior for bathrooms/toilet. And the rangehood is also going to be ventilated to the exterior (or so I've been told). So since there isn't anything getting ventilated into the roof directly, so does that mean it doesn't need a whirly bird or similar for the general roof space? As I thought they were complusory as a tin roof can get mould in it otherwise. Edit: I just saw your post artisan. It is ducted but no whirly brids. So is it compulsory for the WB? Our roof space will need at least 2 from the calculations I found on the net. If not I'll do it after handover. Re: Is roof ventilation compulsory for a tin roof in WA? 11Jan 16, 2010 4:50 pm I don't have whirly birds.. just vents out to air, so I guess the whirly birds are not compulsary.
