Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 561Jan 21, 2011 2:15 pm Thanks for the good wishes - looking forward to the next step and getting the building process started! Mandevilla sounds nice but it will depend where it is going as to how well it will do, which the nursery will advise you on if they are worth their salt. Good luck with it - I can't wait till I get my own garden again. I'm currently growing tomatoes, herbs, etc in pots which are doing really well. Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 562Jan 24, 2011 10:27 am Evelyn, in our last house, we had Jasmin and it was lovely! Nice dark green leaves and beautiful white flowers when it was in flower. And such a lovely smell. I dont know about the other option you have so cant comment. Also, are you sure "i'm here to oil your deck..." wasn't code for something? ------------------------------------------------------ Handover: 14 December 2010 Current: Putting in plants! Also, are you sure "i'm here to oil your deck..." wasn't code for something? Yep, I think although I like the mandevilla, the jasmine may win out because its impossible to kill. And I do love the smell of the flowers on a warm night. He he, I know its sounds a bit ******* Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 564Jan 26, 2011 6:31 pm Well the kids rooms are now well on the way to being finished - each now have a feature wall (thanks me), a chandelier (thanks Crazy Dave's) and fully kitted out wardrobes (thanks Image Robes) DD1 room in Solver "Bardot Red": Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wardrobes each have 4 drawers, a full height shelving section on the other side and double hanging in the centre. They forgot a couple of the shelves so will be coming back to finish off The installer didn't finish until 8pm poor guy. DD2 room in Solver "Jessica": Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Very happy with the chandeliers - they are DIY and screw straight into the batten. Only issue is the cord is very long so I had to pay a few bucks extra and they shortened it for me. Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 565Jan 26, 2011 6:38 pm Very nice, reminds me of when my girls were little both had queenanne beds.I like chandleliers Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 566Jan 27, 2011 9:32 am How special will your girls feel? Looking good! Well the selections appointment on Monday wasn't too bad - we had Emma looking after us and it took almost 3 hours - our heads were spinning afterwards. We remembered all the things we wanted to ask about and change and it was good to be able to have final sign off and now just get on with it! There were a couple of surprises though - our house now needs to be 6 star energy rated so we had to pay an extra $1200 for insulation as that wasn't in the price we were quoted which was before the rules changed. The other one was the requirement for a rubble driveway which we are having the builder do for $800. They are not bad things though - the house will be nice and cosy and we would have had to put some sort of base down anyway before putting the driveway in. We had a couple of wins as well so all in all pretty happy with the outcome. If we wanted to change the laminate in the kitchen that would have been an extra $950 but after seeing the display home we were very happy to go with Wenge Straight Grain throughout. The biggest and most exciting win of the day was I got my Entertainer door!! Total extra cost was $1200 but it's worth it - the door will be slightly bigger than the original and the two left panels will slide open so it's almost as good as a stacker. Looking forward now to the slab party and I'll see if I can work out how to load photos properly. Glad to hear your selection appointment went so well - sounds like you were super organised which always helps, but its such an exhausting process despite the best preparation ! I think ours took about 3 or 4 hours, with lunch in the middle while they finalised all the plans and paperwork. We were supposed to get a rubble driveway, but we never did it and no one ever asked us to - lucky because we spent much more on soil removal than we thought Can't wait to see your selections and your build ! Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 568Jan 27, 2011 10:09 am I love your daughters' rooms. The colours are lovely and fresh and I really love their chandeliers! Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 569Jan 27, 2011 10:44 am The bedrooms look great! I love the chandeliers! McLaren - am glad your selections went well. Thanks We are very much enjoying our new home even though I'm itching to build again already Yes the cubby is quite a hit with the kids, it is stuffed full of toys and they have all sorts of adventures out there. I have the colours picked out to paint it, so thats my next project. Really looking forward to seeing your selections come together - I'm sure they're going to look awesome Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 574Jan 31, 2011 8:40 am Hi Evelyn, I saw your little note re the itch What would you do differently if you did build again? Just interested as your house is looking fantastic. Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 575Jan 31, 2011 10:52 am Mclaren Hi Evelyn, I saw your little note re the itch What would you do differently if you did build again? Just interested as your house is looking fantastic. I love my house, its just that I also loved the build process as well ! Picking things out, seeing it come together, I just loved it all I think having a good builder helped. If I built this same house over again, there aren't too many things I'd change - the biggest one would be to have rejigged the floor plan to allow for a playroom/retreat for the kids separate from the main living area, near their bedrooms. I'd have picked a more glamorous ensuite tile instead of plain cream. Would have gotten the 1m wide door instead of having a sidelight. Probably would have gone for double glazed windows and internal insulation too if $$ permitted. However, what I'd like to build one day is something more modern - lots of glass, render, timber, stone and steel...of course, this would require some kind of lottery win ! Re: Building with Dechellis in 2010 576Jan 31, 2011 11:00 am Sounds good and it's nice to dream. When we started looking at display homes one of the first we saw was a Hickinbotham display (I think) at Seaford Rise and it had a whole wall of glass and a raked ceiling which looked fantastic but the quality was awful. I also love stone esp bookleaf so I might have to squeeze some in when we are landscaping! I think it is hard to get all the elements you love together in one place but it's nice to work towards it. You never know .... one day! For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!!
