Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Major mistake in the brick work 15Jul 31, 2007 8:45 pm Yeah I know I agree its peanuts, even more-so now, however I had a meeting with them this afternoon and basically we were told to settle or they would pull it down and start again. I met with the construction manager (ie. boss of the boss of the cso and site manager). Basically they have agreed to downlights throughout which includes upgraded ceiling insulation, ixl tastics in both bathrooms, render to the front elevation, customised wardrobe (I think this is cr*p as our builder only uses mdf or chipboard or something) and an upgraded front door). They don't want replace the sliding doors as it is basically too much work (again cr*p IMO).
We have basically agreed to settle because we want the house to keep moving and really it doesn't make a huge amount of difference to the bricks. We also keep being advised that raked is far better than flush because it get's rid of air pockets. I know we are probably being really soft about it but I honestly cannot be bothered getting into a dispute with them over it. Re: Major mistake in the brick work 16Jul 31, 2007 9:08 pm Emi!
You have had a massive win! Be really happy with the end result... Think of the extra's that you now have because of someone stuff up ![]() Honestly once you are inside you wont even look at the front but you will always smile at the tastics and the downlights Well done! Re: Major mistake in the brick work 18Aug 01, 2007 11:07 am ![]() I'll never be cold stepping out of the shower in the middle of winter! And in the end thats all that really matters! Re: Major mistake in the brick work 19Aug 01, 2007 1:43 pm ![]() I totally agree, we have done well out of their mistake. Like I said it wasn't worth going any further with it and I'll never be cold stepping out of the shower in the middle of winter! Good outcome all round, although I doubt you would have been stepping out of the shower into the cold in any event, would you? Surely you had planned to install those heater lamps yourself after handover? Currently Building in Bayside (Brighton East) Re: Major mistake in the brick work 20Aug 01, 2007 2:10 pm I think if you are happy, that is what counts. Personally I am particular about my brickwork and would want a lot more and would happily give up all they offered you to have good brickwork. As for delay, I think it is too easy to set your heart on moving in at a certain time and cannot imagine not moving in on time. I think builders really play this card for all it is worth. Unless there were unforeseeable issues with the site, I dont think you should have to pay for contractors errors or poor planning. I'd probably try and be reasonable and… 5 14803 Thanks and agreed, I was initially very suspicious that the tenant had caused this. The only thing that's throwing me is I'm getting similar cracking in the bathroom and… 4 10622 |
